We don't always see eye to eye, but maintain a healthy respect.

There has always been a love-hate relationship between the English and the French, and historically the English and the French have always been enemies though there are things that the English like about the French, perhaps some clash other twhats happening within the EU. there will always xenophobic attitudes in any country about any other culture or country, were all people at the end of the day!!!

I think for most English people it is only a friendly rivalry. I know a few French people here in Yorkshire and they get on very well with everyone. Personally I am a bit jealous of the French because they have managed to retain their culture better than the English. I know people who have lived or are living in France and they love the life style - the food, the pace of life, the community. I don't know anyone who has visited France with a bad word to say about it - except that Paris is too expensive!

Historically we have always been trading partners and inevitably - being so close we have also developed rivalries - but on the whole I think it is all pretty good humoured and there is no real hatred. That would be ridiculous!
Au revoir ma cherie! Or is it mon cher!?

Do you mean English, as in American, or British? I (American), personally, loath the French government, and the arrogant attitude I have encountered with some French people I have met. However, I'm sure there are others who are lovely. I cannot speak for the British, but they do have a very long history of fighting the French.

Well, just like the French government and a portion of the French people are not happy with the way the US government has been doing things on the world arena (Iraq, etc) we aren't happy with the way the French government and a portion of the French people have done nothing to stop terrorism and give in to it. That's at least one of the reasons I'm not big on the French government.

I've discovered that on an individual level, there is lots of goodwill and mutual respect - my judo club has made exchange visits to France for many years

There is some truth that the English are wary of the French state and the French approach to the EU, foreign affairs and other matters. They can't understand french tastes in cinema, music and literature

I once worked (in England) with a guy who said "I don't like the French as a rule, or the Welsh, or the Irish....in fact I don't like the man next door that much".
A lot of people don't like the stereotyped idea they have of the French, but don't actually know any French people.

I suppose english people like french people so much that french dislike them ! !

We really have different point view about so much topics . . .
See how England want be part of Europe but not inside it !
Gal De Gaulle had to face a second Europe lead by England (with Netherland and Austria).

They wanted to force french industry to stop the cheese production having mould (roquefort, camember . . .) to keep untasty cheese from Netherland !

Look in little things too how we are different : on a video game, when I pull my joystick, the view is going down . . . If it's an english game, when you pull your joystick, you see the sky ! ! !

They probably don't like french people but I understand that fully !

We are not ennemy, but we can't be real friend before long . . .

I think its a healthy hate the french and english have. I love to hate the french but reallly I think you are okay sort of....., if you know what I mean. At least you are a fairly peaceful nation and your arrogance sometimes is a bit of a turn on. You do have great food, love french bread and cheese mmmmmmm.
