A parole officer function is very similar to that of a probation officer. The parole officer supervises felons that have been released from prison before their sentence is complete, and the felon will complete their sentence as a free person as along as they abide by some strict rules of conduct. The parole officer is supposed to supervise and give guidance, but in reality their case load is so large they can't closely supervise anyone at all. If a parolee violates his parole, the parole agent causes a warrant to be issued in order to put the parolee back in prison to finish serving his time. It's more administrative than field oriented, but some pro-active parole agents, if they have time and are properly motivated, will go out and conduct surprise parole searches, look for clients that have gone awry, and make a good effort an making thier clientele toe the line.

works for judicial branch, most times armed with police powers of arrest; they are given cases / parolees who have to report to their officers to prove that they are meeting the conditions of their parole.

A parole is an early release from prison, or release with conidtions attached. May be to find work, not to be arrested or hang out with known crinimals, often they have to provid urine samples. They also hunt down parolees who violated the conditions of their parole and arrest them.
