Certainly organized religion should be banned.
It was the one good thing Communism tried to do. Unfortunately it was overthrown before it finished the job, and now the priests with their voodoo are back. A misfortune for mankind.

Absolutely not. And this is coming from someone who disagrees with adherence to a certain religion. While it's true that most wars and repression have been done in the name of religion, we shouldn't ban anything, for that would be no better than the religions themselves. I think of religion the same way I think of other belief systems. If we ban religion should we also ban political affiliation? What about other personal rights? Where do we draw the line? A Christian has just as much right to practice what they do as I do. Of course if violence or use of force to violate someones free will is a major part of that religion, that should be outlawed, but they still have the right to believe that they should do those things.

ok. I'm an atheiest but i do NOT believe that religion should be outlawed. Society needs religion.

the use of religion today and the intended purpose of religion are completely different, which is why i find it in all aspects annoying, ignorant and a scam. BUT that does not change the fact that without religion, the world would be in total chaos. People would go nuts.

Here is a vague example. When i was a little kid, i was manipulated to believe that there was a santa clause. so i made sure that i was a good girl. I wasnt good because i had respect for anyone, or because of my moral standards. I was good because at the end of each year i wanted a present. Even though i had never seen him in real life, never seen him putting those presents under the tree, never seen him eat those cookies, i would be good because i was afraid to end up empty handed on dec 25.

if we took religion out of society, people would have no reason to stay within their set of moral standard because most people are ignorant.

that is just one of many of my thoughts but i am too tired to type you pages of reasons why religion is "retarded" but is needed for ignorant people

Lets see. The choice to believe in a religion is an exercise of free will. By advocating legislature to abolish religions you are allowing the government to control the freedom of thought. I should be free to believe whatever I want as long as I do not kill, or infringe on the rights of other people. So, no i do not support the "outlawing" of religion.

I don't follow a religion for the same reason, but I believe everyone should have an opinion and follow what their heart tells them. Also some religions (healthy or not) are very helpful to the people that need it. Of course, some take advantage of widows and depressed people.
Religions are just opinions, and so they should not be outlawed...just regulated to some degree.

Not everyone who has a belief system follows the same deity so therefore religious practices will never be wiped out even if it were outlawed. All that would serve to do is drive the adherents underground and make them worship in secret. Repression tends to make people more religious not less.

Unfortunately if you outlaw religion you would be setting a very destructive precedent that could be used to outlaw any belief based on the will of the controlling majority ... basically the opposite of freedom.

I don't go by religion anyway. The churches only want to make the money. If you dress wrong, ask the wrong questions, they don't invite you back. Some even goes as far as to send you a bill, if you don't give enough.
I speak to the Great Spirit, when there is a need, WHere ever I am. I perfer outside anyway. It's closer to his Creations.

Jesus chose to violently cast thieves from the temple...
Religion is man reaching to God... Christianity is God reaching out to man. Second Corinthians 5:17- to about 20

No, for the same reason that conspiracy theories can't be outlawed: If you drive it underground, you only make things worse.

Besides, people should believe whatever they like. But they shouldn't expect the rest of us to go along with them when, for example, they try to make their religion an arm of the government.

The first amendment guarantees religious freedom, which includes the freedom to practice any religion. Now, the whole going door-to-door thing I think could be outlawed, because that is them imposing their beliefs on people.
