I'm all for Christianity, really, I am. But I need to understand something.

God made the world in seven days, right?
If so, why did he rest?
He's God!!!
God doesn't need to rest. He's God.
That part doen't make sense to me.
Could someone explain?

"Have you not known? Have you not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, does not grow weak nor weary? There is no searching of His understanding." (Isaiah 40:28, MKJV)

No, God doesn't need to rest from being tired. So why, after only six days of work on restoring the earth -- a mere six days amidst eternity -- did he 'rest'?

Just as God restored the earth to a habitable form for our sakes, so he also set this example for us to follow. And, BTW, the original Hebrew word does not mean 'rest' as in recooperate from hard work; it means to 'CEASE' from working. We are to cease our labors on the seventh day to take time to learn about God:
"...Truly you shall keep My sabbaths. For it is a sign between Me and you throughout your generations, TO KNOW THAT I AM THE LORD who sanctifies you." (Exodus 31:13)

The Hebrew word translated "rest" really means to cease from work. The word is "shabath" (Pronounced shaw-bath') and is where we get the term Sabbath from. It means: to repose, i.e. desist from exertion; used in many implied relations (causative, figurative or specific).

So, as someone else said, He gave us an example to follow. Once a week, we should stop working. God didn't need to relax, as you said, He is God. But He did stop working on the seventh day. He declared the day holy, and gave us a reason to stop working as well.

Further, the writer to the Hebrews mentions that there is another day of rest for believers, and is found in Hebrews 4.

I hope that helps!

God made the world in 6 days and on the 7th day he rested. You are right, God does not need to rest, but as our Father, He does set examples for us.
We have 6 days each week to work and take care of our own needs. On the 7th day, we are to remember the One that created us. The 7th day is not only a day of rest, but also a day that is to be devoted to honoring God.
My grandparents took this very seriously. No work and no business was conducted on the 7th day. Their 7th day was Sunday and Sunday was reserved for church, reflection, and family getting together to love each other as God loves each of us.

He is very active-the issue of Universal Sovreignty is at stake. It means he rested from creating new things. The creative days weren't really 24 hours long-God really doesn't need time-it's a measure for us. For example, we say, "In Shakespeare's day" or "in the olden days" and it's not a 24 hour period-it refers to a time frame.

The Sabbath was made for man and a reminder of the creator God that is why we need to still follow the ten commandments including keeping the Sabbath which was made for us. He rested to show us and example.

Mark 2:27 And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath:

How could he have made light before making the sun. If you want to get technical. ;) I'm sure people are going to put, to make an example how we should work/rest. U think rich people do a 6 and 1. I dont think so, sure seems to benefit the top.

Good question! I agree, why would God need rest?

Now to be serious. There is a LOT of evidence that proves the world was not made in 7 days. So.....yeah.......
Sorry.

He created all we needed in this world in 6 days. The rest is him not having to create anymore. He can sit back and watch over His people

that's a fair question, but you also might have asked "if he is all powerful, why not make the world in one instance...why 6 days?" and the answer is because god sets examples for us. He teaches us process, and pattern, and he teches us we need to "rest" and take a break, reflect and consider what we have done.

GOd can do anything. and First thing GOD decide to make his self tired. SO he worked overtime , instead 5 days 6 and really, really got tired. That's why for the first few days of adam existence poor god did not even know where adam was. Remember he was looking for him in Eden. Poor god. I think we should ask him not to work that hard anymore.
