The most direct way to explain it is that unsalted butter is always better for cooking and baking because it doesn't add extra salt to a recipe that probably already has herbs and/or salt in the ingredients.
However, unsalted butter doesn't taste that great by itself - on bread, toast, pancakes, etc.
Salted butter should be used on items that are going to be eaten directly, including the "dab of butter" on freshly cooked veggies.
Hope that helps!
Good Luck!

Unsalted butter is used when you're baking things that might stick (the salt makes it harder to get them off the pan) or when you have a need to restrict your salt intake. Personally, I don't worry about it and just use a silicone pad for baking.
Salted butter has no effect on the ability of a baked product to rise. There's not enough salt in it to make any difference in that respect at all.

Unsalted is usually for baking, b/c you add salt to a baking recipe anyway...salted butter would be too much.
I use salted butter for things like mashed potatoes, regular butter on the table for bread/rolls. Everything else....I use unsalted.

Unsalted butter is for baking. The salted is for pretty much everything else.

Depends on what you are cooking.
If you use butter to saute, for instance, you can use salted butter. But some recipes call for unsalted butter, like cakes and such.
