I personally find it disturbing that grown-ups could fall for a sci-fi writer / messiah that believes we come from shellfish, have million year old thetans inhabiting our bodies & that all mental disorders are a hoax of the psychiatric world.

But let me know what you think.

I promise not to sue you for your opinion:)

You know what's even more disturbing than that? Modern adults believing in the inerrancy of a book written thousands of years ago by uneducated savages who wanted to preserve their mythology in writing.

The truth is, if you actually look at it objectively, scientology as a religion is no more absurd than any other religion. They're all absolutely ridiculous, looked at from a realistic point of view.

What makes scientology troubling is that the church of scientology isn't really a church at all, but a giant pyramid scheme. They take advantage of the willingness to believe in order to make money.

I don't see Scientology as any nuttier than Christianity and several other religions. If Hubbard had lived back in the day, the bible would no doubt include The Gospel of Ronald, which Christians in our own time would be staunchly defending as divinely inspired.

I suspect Paul was a sci-fi writer too.

L. Ron Hubbard, second-rate science fiction author, wrote a self-help book, Dianetics. Crazy people read it, and started a cult around it.

Hubbard had a love/hate relationship with the cult -- he liked the money and accolades, and dressing up in pseudo-Navy attire, and traveling around the world. But, he was disturbed by the thought of the cult. So -- he added elements to the "religion" which any reasonable person would think ridiculous:
Xenu
DC-8
Blowing up millions of people next to volcanoes 75 million years ago.
Etc.

Eventually, the cultists confined him to his ranch, so he would stop adding ridiculous things to the religion. He spent the last five years of his life out of sight. Pretty sad.

I wonder if they have proof that sells people this idea. That would be crazy if it was true. You shouldnt ask for opinions if you have a biased one from the beginning, Btw, As long as they are happy and keep their freewill what does it matter. Are they knocking on your door asking for money. We have no idea why people get into that religion but, there has to be some truth or it would not work.

It's very odd, but you know what, let them be, all relegions started out as cults and Christians have some far fetched ideas/beliefs too. I'm not going to name any because there are to many to name and I don't feel like thinking about this anylonger.

So, don't mean to offend but all religions started out a strange group of men with untraditional beliefs.

But scientologist to me are looney.

I don't really know what they believe, so 'n cant say. But I agree with vanamont7....all of these knew religions are a far cry from God's truth. And Psychological disorders are as real as water and air, measles and mumps.

I believe that an adult that goes into scientology of free will has that right no matter what my personal beliefs are. As with any belief system no one should be forced into it due to marriage, peer pressure or threat of punishment.

Demons! The scriptures tell us that the end days will be like these. You must repent of your sins and come to Jesus. Only he can save you, now!

A total scam.....I took one of their "tests" when somebody plucked me off the streets when I was going to college in Toronto. The only reason they are interested in anyone is to get their money. The celebs are perfect because they have lots of it to waste. The more money they have, the more the "church" scams from them.

I think it's a celebrity fad...and I feel awful for Katie Holmes, Cruise probably keeps her locked up in a dungeon and fills her head with that crap.
