Begin with your parents. The decent are those who at least return some of the good that they received. Our Parents took care of us when we were helpless and made all kinds of sacrifices to raise us. The best way to serve the LORD is to serve his creatures, as we can not directly serve the ONE who is above all NEEDS!!

If you have a mom or dad, give them a foot massage, prepare some food they like, give them a back scratch ... you may be surprised they may like that. Be kind to them, be gentle and serve them in what THEY WANT, not what YOU want.

Serve the neighbor, the homeless in your city perhaps. Start a soup kitchen if you dont have one in your city or join the one that already exists. Visit the Old folks homes, be kind to an abandoned man...

I will recite a small story from the time of Moses. It may just be a story, not based on reality for all one knows, but a good one. Once as Moses was ready to go up to Mount Sinai a man said to Moses to tell to God Almighty that he has just bought some scented hair oil to apply to God's hair, and he has also bought a nice fine toothed comb to take out the lice from the hair of God, and he would like to wash and clean God and take care of him.

Moses was apalled at this stupid request and told him God is not what he believes to be. He is above all need, has no lice and needs no scented hair oil. When Moses went to visit the Holy One after some discussions and interactions, Moses was ready to leave the Holy ONE to go back, when the MIGHTY ONE asked Moses if he has forgotten a message sent by one of the people he had met on his way. Moses had not even given any thought to the man who had bought the hair perfume for God, and even upon being asked could not remember him. God then reminded Moses of the man who wanted to comb his hair etc.. and Moses was embarassed that the Lord knew about the stupid man.

The Lord said to Moses, why dont you bring me the messages as requested instead of censoring them. Go to that man and tell him this: There is an old man a few kilometers away who has no one cares for. He has lice in his hair, has not had anyone comb him and lacks food. Tell this man to go comb his hair, remove his lice and use his scented oil and it will be as if he took care of the LORD ALMIGHTY himself.

This is a beautiful story an old Indian Sufi man told me. It is beautiful and may answer your question perfectly.
