Once a tight cabal of fundamentalists takes over any denomination, Christ's teachings go out the window. The reversal of Christianity from a religion of love to a religion of hate is the greatest religious tragedy of our time.

America finds itself in the sad plight of being the world's most prominent secular society hijacked by sectarians. One can only hope that the church comes to its senses and regains its moral center. If that doesn't occur, the core teachings of Christ will be lost, for all intents and purposes, to this generation.

US Christians were some of the only people who actually went and stood by the people that the country they were from was trying to kill indescriminately. I am talking about in Latin America. I think that over time, regardless of some violent language in the Bible, that Christians have attempted to live by the teachings of Christ. Helped the poor, the needy, and those who are persecuted. Now it has been turned into some Bush Brigade. It is not only Islam that has been hijacked by the worst forms of hate, it is also Christianity. We need to salvage the faith.

I agree with you. This is the same reason I now find myself migrating away from most organized religion. The bible does not say I have to be in a certain building to express my religion. It only states...where two or more are gathered in my name...I hate no one in particular, just the actions involved. Once an individual repents, people should not continue to condemn no matter what the sin.

And I though that Christ also taught the sinners to "go and sin no more" (John 8:2-11)? Why is it hate speech to ask people to stop sinning? Christ did constantly.

BTW, Christ taught that God intended sex to be between a man & a woman who were married; if anyone could not accept this, then he should become a eunuch (Matt. 19:1-12).

Why is it condemnation to simply teach what Jesus taught? Both Jesus and Paul expressly stated that the "sexually immoral" people would not enter Heaven (Mark 7:20-23; Gal. 5:16-21). Do you think that their motives in giving us this warning were to condemn, or to help?

Is it "loving" to lie to people and tell them that they are right with God when we know that they are not (Ezekiel 33:7-11; James 5:19-20)?

PS: Your last post makes no sense in light of your original question. BTW, how do you know what Christ's "original teachings" were if you assume that the Bible is not a reliable record of his words? How does one pick & choose which commands were really from Christ, and which ones were added later by fundamentalist editors who "hijacked" the Bible for their own purposes? Just a gut feeling?

Whosoever would not seek the LORD God of Israel should be put to death, whether small or great, whether man or woman.
2 Chronicles 15:13

"He that blasphemeth the name of the LORD, he shall surely be put to death, and all the congregation shall certainly stone him." -- Leviticus 24:16

Samaria shall become desolate; for she hath rebelled against her God: they shall fall by the sword: their infants shall be dashed in pieces, and their women with child shall be ripped up.
Hosea 13:16

The truth is, it's not a "cabal" that turned Christianity in to a hateful, intolerant religion during "our time". Read the Bible. It's full of this stuff.

The first time he came was not to condemn, but to fulfill what was written in the scriptures that man might be saved. Only a choice not to accept the grace of God will truely condemn you, but that does not mean that all your actions are good. The scriptures are clear on the position that homosexuality is a sin.

Jesus was a Jew. He was respected as a teacher by most of the people of Judea. He respected the Law of Moses..

Leviticus 20:13
If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.

Isn't that a condemnation?

Well i think that the bible wasnt written by God but by people who said they were writting God's words - but their own interpretation of it. After all if you belive that god creates all things even now, then he created a particular person to be gay or lesbian. I think its more important how you live your life not which rules you follow by which religious cult. If you belive in God then you have to believe that he created a gay person for a reason. I wonder how people would think it a gay person invented the cure for cancer? Would god have created that person just5 for the sole purpose of being the creator of the cure, and the fact that hes gay? I think we have to look at ourselves and accept others for who and what they are and not force our opinions on others of how they should behave or live their lives

"Do not lie with a man as you would a woman" Lev 18:22

Sounds to me like God doesn't like homosexuality.

Don't get me wrong, gay people in the general sense are fine. But homosexuality IS a sin, and it is disgusting to God.

And please don't get all high-and-mighty at me. It's in the Bible for goodness sake. If you don't like it, yell at God, not at me.
