If you believe in God, you have chosen to reject Allah, Vishnu, Budda, Waheguru and all of the thousands of other gods that other people worship today. It is quite likely that you rejected these other gods without ever looking into their religions or reading their books. You simply absorbed the dominant faith in your home or in the society you grew up in. In the same way, the followers of all these other religions have chosen to reject God. You think their gods are imaginary, and they think your God is imaginary.
I contend that we are all atheists. I just believe in one fewer god than you do. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours.
Does this make any sense?? Throw away the silly notion that only your way is the right way, and you MIGHT be able to see that your religion is no more "true" than any others...

Apparently, people here are IDIOTS. Reread what I wrote - I said that I am an atheist, and so are you (a catholic who believes in God) because I beleive in one less God than Christian do. Now, Christians only believe in one god, so that would mean that I dont beleive in ANY god. You freakin morons! Sheesh! Telling me to look up what Atheist means....how about you people PAY ATTENTION TO WHAT IS WRITTEN???

I can't believe I read your DRIBBLE [sic].
The fact is that you are absolutely correct. Most of the faithful in America believe in one god, having completely discounted the ten-thousand other gods that humanity has believed in throughout history. "But," they will say, "Of course I don't believe in Odin or Zeus or Ra. Those are myths."
As I'm sure you've gleaned from these answers, most of these people will not even read your question, never mind understand it. Only a handful will really have an opinion on what you have said.
We need to just remember that in a thousand years Christianity and Islam and all the rest will be regarded as myths. We can only hope that they are not replaced with ideas even more frightening.

Without meaning to be pedantic, I feel the need to point out a small factual inaccuracy... Allah and the Christian God are one and the same; Judaeism, Islam and Christianity all follow the Old Testament.
Now having said that I do agree with the point you make and in many ways theistic religion is bad for society as it actively discourages the questioning of belief, rendering the making of a decision based on reason or rational thought /debate nigh on impossible. In fact the reason you are getting so much abuse having asked this question is because the Bible teaches that those who encourage doubt are demons and to be loathed. How is progression possible faced with such unfounded stubbornness? I think I might have to ask that question now.

Please read, thanks
Well, my way cannot be "the way" niether can a god that I invent in my head that reflects my values, be "the God"
I don't follow my way and I don't make up my own god
I follow Jesus Christ and I believe in The God.
Jesus answered," I am the Way and the Truth and the life. No one comes to the Father(God) except through me."-John 14:6, the Bible
I know your not happy with my answer because you are a liberal and you want my answer to reflect with your thinking that all paths lead to the same place.
Well if you want a more open minded answer here you go. Please read whole thing.
There is a reason for Christianity, it promises salvation and it preaches to do good works.
All of the other religions are basically the same because they all tell us to do good works and they all believe in a higher power but none promise salvation.
Even Athiest do good deeds and can be rightious...
Even if the way that i follow is not the way,( as you say it is) then I am fully prepared...
you ask, "What?"
Yes, if I die and thats it, well then I have been a good person
if I die, since I have been a good person, I won't rencarnate into an animal.
If I die and know that there is a God and that all ways are good, than I am ok.
If I die and it turns out that Jesus really did die for our sins and that He provided the only way to God, well I am absolutly fine too, becaue I have accepted Jesus as my Savior.
I am fully prepared, but I have no doubts in my faith, I expect the last senario.
But you however are not prepared, you could be dead wrong, and you could not end up well at all after you die.
You are taking a huge gamble with your soul.
Jesus saved me and He will save you IF you accept Him as your Lord and Savior. Just ask forgiveness and ask Jesus into your heart and soul...
"That if you confess with your mouth, Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved."-Romans 10:9, the Bible
You ask, "Saved?!, saved from what?"
Saved from your sins that lead to hell, Jesus died that so that you could live.
But it takes some faith.
It takes even more insane faith to believe in evolution science fiction, theory crap, if you were the least bit sceptical about it, you would see all of the major flaws in the theory.
But many are just not open minded enough to believe in God, that is why the theory was created, to suit their mindsets.
Evolution is an unproven harebrained Theory, commonly accepted as fact without the least bit of actual common sense thinking involved.
Well, go ahead and make your own "way" in life, but you can be sure that a way fassioned from one individual is anything but the Truth.
Everyone is intitaled to thier own oppinion, but not their own facts.
you have a nice day,
I'm praying for you, may God grant you wisdom

Nope. Your reasoning is flawed.
An Orientalist named Max Müller once said, "There is no such thing as a false god or a false religion unless one is willing to call a child a false man." Therefore a preference for one form of the divine is not necessarily a rejection of all other forms.

I took a world religions class in college, and we also studied a couple of other religions in high school in humanities class, so I would not agree with your statements here. I would rather say that all of us are believers, but some people have forgotten why they used to believe. Have a happy day.

No, an atheist believe in no God of any kind, Not wiccan Gods, Pagan God, Buddhist Gods, Christian God, Jewish God or Muslim God.
Maybe if youd look up the DEFINITION of the word, you wouldnt waste time with this quesion.

i am an agnostic. which means i'm equally tempted by all your paths... even the atheist's.
i believe all atheists believe in a god shaped hole that sucks deities into it. i do not see how you can disregard all of those believers by classifying their notions of truth as silly.
yes, it makes sense. and it is just as alienating when it comes from an atheist as when it comes from a theist, regardless of what particular flavor theist it might be.
