According to Christianity, yes, he would burn in hell and suffer torment unending. And the rapist child murderer who asks forgiveness on his death bed will be welcomed with open arms in heaven.
Ain't it strange how Christians have such a malicious and twisted vision of 'God'? What an insult to believe fairy tales that paint God as stupid and cruel, yet they do believe it, never catching on that they've been duped.

You have equated goodness with righteousness. And they are related. But neither is the point.
The penalty for sin is death. Any sin. Not just the ones we think of as being "really bad." The only way one would not need Jesus as Savior is if one could be sinless.
If a man is sinless, he has nothing to worry about, except that according to God, none are sinless.
If one honestly follows Jesus, one will be good and righteous. I don't believe that one may misuse grace to do evil unaccounted for. There are consequences for Christians who willfully live in sin and make a mockery of His sacrifice on their behalf.

I do not believe in hell, but to those of you who say this person will go to hell: They cared for your grandmother as she lay dying, volunteered at a soup kitchen and homeless shelter. No drinking or drugging.....and no believing in God. How happy are you that this person who had so many good qualities gets eternal damnation? Do you enjoy believing in a God that values scaring the wits out of people just to get a little recognition?

You are entitled to your own opinion, but if you want the truth, you should pay attention to the Bible. If a person can somehow wipe his own sins clean, then Jesus died in vain. Unless the gift of salvation is received by faith, then we go to the grave carrying our own sins with us. Then we can only get justice, since we have spurned God's mercy.

The bible states that righteous deeds are not enough no matter how many you complete, only through belief in Jesus as your Lord and Savior, will grant you the gifts of Heaven.

Yes they will, for without submitting their life to Christ, their "good works" are being performed merely with "lipservice as menpleasers" as the Scripture says. It's wonderful that they do all these things, but it is impossible to please God without committing your life to Him in every way. The care they give others would be "hollow" if they didn't do it with the love of God in them and the direction of the Holy Ghost guiding them. The question that was asked in Acts Chapter 2 about what was needed to be done by man in order to obtain his salvation had nothing to do with feeding the hungry, caring for the sick and etc. though those are things we are commissioned to do as Christians. The Scripture said, "Men and bretheren, what must we do to be saved? The Peter said unto them, 'Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ for the remission of your sins and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.'" Acts 2:37-38 Just as faith without works is dead, the inverse is true as well, works without faith is dead!

Some (not all) of these "true" Christians will also have to say that:
If you don't do any of those good things you'll be fine. In fact even if you help to pass legislation against them, you'll go to heaven if you "repent and believe in Jesus." You know, it's "faith," not "acts" that get you a place in heaven. It's what you call a wallet-friendly religion.

All the answers are good. But remember even though works alone do not get you into heaven, the fact that both God and His Son are forgiving, your friend will be there. Whether we say we believe or not is a mortal choice but God's work goes so much farther.

If someone were truly righteous without Christ's help, then he would go to heaven. Unfortunately, according to the Bible, all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.
