the following chart is the age of consent in america
Sexual Consent Age Laws (USA)
This laws are for sexual consent in the United States only. As with any laws, these are subject to change. If you see two ages in one cell, that is because the age of consent is different for females and for males. Yes, that is stupid, but I didn't make these laws.
Although many young people are mature enough to know how to deal with the consequences of sex, some teens are not grown up enough to know that their actions have consequences. Age of consent laws are there to stop young people from being exploited by adults.
That is why you need to register to VOTE at age 18 and make your opinions heard! End of lecture.

Remember we are dealing with some pretty powerful emotions so changing the age probably won't make a difference. The desire to have sex isn't really affected by what the law books say; around about half of my friends had sex before they were "allowed" to by law and the other half followed on within a year or two. I think the UK and Australia (where I am from) and most countries are right at the age of 16 for consent. I think it is important for teens to know what they are getting themselves into and what the possible consequences are (which are pretty obvious). After the facts are provided, it is up to them to make informed decisions. There isn't a great deal more we really can do anyway.

The laws are different, not only country by country but state
by state. Although most states agree on the age of consent,
they don't always agree what that really means.
"Dating" is not sufficiently descriptive to be legally useful.
Some countries might consider "being in the unattended
presence of..." as a date. That is, if you were found alone,
even playing cards, it would be considered illegal.
However, not this country. The only thing the statutory
rape laws prevent you from doing is having sex. That is,
to be any kind of rape, sex must be involved.
In any case, make him wait for a year for sex. Tell him that you're
worth it. In any case, tell him that jail isn't all that its cracked
up to be and he probably wouldn't enjoy who he'd be
getting for dates in there.
People should be able to be alone together without having
sex. You may not like it, but you will live through it.

you would be safe but it is illegal and if you were caught right now the other person may be put in jail or charged because your only a year away from being legal it may make no fdifference if it was 14 and 18 then the consequences would be alot worst but your safe at 17 and the same sex the rules do apply but not the same as two sex couples,so dont worry about it and just live your life

The law varies everywhere. In most places, the younger person is not the one at risk according to the law. 17 is legal many places. The sex of the participants doesn't matter, although it can be difficult for two women to meet the legal definition of sex in many places.
If you are truly concerned, a local lawyer can tell you in about 1 minute what the law is where you live.

Well if I'm correct it's legal to have a four age difference here in the U.S too. But that's the limit. You're 17 so I think it's fine. When will you be turning 18?

Yes it applies to same sex. He (or she) would still get in trouble. Because of the gay stereotypes, she may get in more trouble than a 24 yo guy would.

The only laws we have here in California is that the person needs to be 18 or older to engage in sexual intercourse.....doesn't matter what the age difference is.....you HAVE to be 18 or older or its just illegal.
