Use the "Diet Calculator" at the site listed below. It will calculate your Body Mass Index (BMI), Waist-to-Height Ratio, Percent Body Fat, and Lean Body Mass. You will have to enter your height and weight as well as the size of your waist, neck, and hips and level of activity.

I suppose sit ups aren't the best for back, so maybe leg drops would be good for you.
I'd say do as much as you feel you can, that's what I was told when I was doing those sorts of work outs: do it until you can't do it anymore
Sorry I can't give much advice, maybe try a body building forum for info from people who know best (https://tr.im/66KJp)

I understand that this seems like a long time, but in 6 months you're gonna be wishing you could get a 6 pack in 1-2 weeks again. Find the motivation and start now - the more you put it off, the harder it becomes to achieve. Good luck!

Underwater weighing: A method for determining the lean body mass. This method weighs a person underwater and then calculates the lean body mass (muscle) and body fat. This method is one of the more accurate ones. However, it is generally done in special research facilities, and the equipment is costly. Also called hydrostatic weighing. Skin fold is widely used but less accurate in my opinion.

Here is the formula to calculate it yourself.

English BMI Formula
BMI = ( Weight in Pounds / ( Height in inches ) x ( Height in inches ) ) x 703

Metric BMI Formula
BMI = ( Weight in Kilograms / ( Height in Meters ) x ( Height in Meters ) )

Also, Here is the range that tells what is good, OK and bad but again its not a true measure of health.. for example if you are an athlete with lot of muscle mass then it will not give correct results.
