I am 44 an have a seizure disorder. I work in a hospital nursing unit. The nurses make fun of seizures.

Whoa, whoa, whoa. This is not the least bit funny. Seizure disorder is a serious thing. Are you a nurse or an aide? Nurses tend to make fun of aids just in general. It's important to determine here if they are making fun of seizures in general or you specifically. You'd better start documenting things just in case you lose your job over this you will have documentation of your harrassment and discrimination. And please, make sure you are well controlled with your medication. Good luck to you. Hey.....on more thing.....if you ever get to the point where you have no insurance or money for meds, contact your local epilepsy foundation. They'll fund you what you need.

sorry you are 44 years old and talking like that? maybe that is why people you know and that know you make fun of people with s.d. try to see that you need medical help if you are thinking like this at your age this is obviously a big problem in your personal and professional life to the point you need to ask this question publicly why dont you ask your collegues why they are making fun of you not your s.d.?

seizures are no laughing matter, in fact they are caused by the wiring in your brain being out of wack...Perhaps you may seem (out of it) when you are have these episodes, diorentated and confused, in severe cases you may even have hallucinations. Epilepsy is a very serious disease and can be complicated. Have you seen a neurologist? if not I suggest you do.

i dont know why they do, but people do all the time and then i'm really nervous, because i want to bring up the fact that i have seizures, but i dont want to be made fun of.....

People are immature. When immature people are looking for something to laugh at they don't think of the feelings of others. Don't get too offended. Instead, see them as they are, shallow, immature people. You should feel sorry for them. They are behaving more like adolescents instead of professionals. Don't put yourself on their level by reacting to them. Remember to conduct yourself as a professional even though they don't.
