There you go.
Why does everyone want to make this so complicated? If you follow the law, then you're very welcome here. If you break the law, then you should be imprisoned or deported. Where is the problem? I don't get to break the law. What if my family is (sob, sob) hungry? Do I get to rob a bank? Fat freakin' chance.

Because the wording of your question, in relation to the current debate about illegal immigrants from Mexico, sounds like you want to pretend you don't know what is going on.
Mexicans comprise the bulk of illegals, so unless you mention illegal immigrants from Britain, France, Russia, any number of African nations . . . people will assume you are talking about Mexico.
If you are not talking about illegals of Latin descent, then specify so. It is a hot button topic that sparks a lot of emotions from people of different backgrounds.
But, you say that illegals should be deported and legals are your friend.
How can you tell if someone is an immigrant or not?
How can you tell if someone who is an immigrnat is illegal or not?
They are plenty of caucasian illegals here, but you won't approach them because of their skin color.
People talk about this in the context of skin color only, hence, you are looking at someone who has a different complexion, different accent, different ways of communicating, and you are making a judgement about them.
Do you see what other people are suspicious of? The immigration debate brings out the worst fears of racism, bigotry, and intolerance, regardless of how anti-immigrant pundits try to spin themselves.

I think that all they see is the word "immigrant". They keep missing the word ILLEGAL!!! I have nothing wrong with legal immigrants. They had the courage to come to this country so wonderful. The ones who do not have the courage to go the legal way are the ones the I have a problem. with.

1st, STOP calling them illegal immigrants!
Illegal and Immigrant are an oxymoron.
An Immigrant came to the country legally and as such, are citizens, if not, then they are an Illegal Alien (as opposed to a Resident Alien, awaiting or pending status of citizenship)
The term is right up there with others from the liberals like "Islamic Militants" (Terrorists)
DEMAND their definition be EXACT if they are going to speak to you on the subject and "Avoid the Spin!"

Some people want to give our country to every Tom, Dick and Harry that breaks the law by crossing our boarders illegally. These are the same morons that are responsible for convicts having more rights and protection than their victims.
Ungodly people making public policy!!!!!!!!!!1
