Well from what I saw in the last responses to your question, you got a number of Christian/Catholic answers. However, your question leans towards a debate on creationism vs evolution. Who's to say that life only evolved on Earth? We haven't been everywhere, and we just don't know. Many of the top minds in the science exploration field believe that with the infinate number of solar systems, that life on other planets is highly probable.
The odd thing about your question is that those that answered with God made everything (and would have you believe in Creationism only) will say that Viruses evolved. Even now any common virus has mutated into something different altogether, this is why medicine is necessary.
I will say that I agree with your top answer in your last post, you need to read up on ALL religions and base your choice on LOGIC and not what other people tell you. If you're interested one of my personal favorite books is The Encyclopedia of Biblical Errancy by C. Dennis McKinsey and/or The Book Your Church Doesn't Want You To Read by Tim C. Leedom. Both are available on Amazon.
With that said, I will tell you that what you choose to believe is your personal choice, and no one can lead you down that path. To all the people that will answer this with scripture and biblical quotes - I will point out that there were many saviors to the world before Jesus Christ and pushing your beliefs on someone isn't a very CHRISTIAN thing to do. Offer your help, offer guidance, but keep your scripture and bible thumping to yourself.

Okay, first to address the ones that we don't know that he did. We can't answer why God created an infinite universe with life only on Earth because we just don't know that he did. Even assuming God did create everything, there's no reason to believe that the universe is infinite vs. finite, or that there is only life on Earth. The universe could be filled with life created by God. Second, humans are made in the image of their creator, not as replicas of our creator. There are many things God can do that we can't. Finally, viruses play a role in God's ultimate plan. Whether they are a test, or a challenge to overcome, or they play some other role, God's ultimate wisdom led him to create a universe that had viruses and other things that we, as humans, wish didn't exist. Rather than ask why he did something, we should trust God to do the right thing, and ask what should we do in response. The existence of viruses can result in much misfortune, but can be an opportunity for great good as we help those afflicted and use science to learn to beat the viruses.

all Ur questions relating to God have a simple and logical solution
....lets start with the idea that God created everything ...now
with that idea in mind God gave everyone free will..free will to createe and chose what path to travel ...now lets see u asked why did God creat viruses OK simple God didn't create viruses we did...now for the universe question the universe is probably infinite but its ever growing as we speak so it may or may not be that is unknown ... life on earth happened and i would imagine in many other plants the same as what we think is true ..EVOLUTION... granted the Adam and eve story is true but i must believe there must be a balance there must be some truth to both ....and then finally why cant we travel through space ...because were not smart enough YET! to understand how to do it .... we are not limited to do anything the only limitation we is the area in which the mind cant understand ..that is our common human wall the limitation.

I find it funny that millions (billions, really) of years of viruses' work screwing up the genome into something cluttered and unwieldy show readily to anyone who can look at the data, even though you still get people saying humans were created 6000 years ago and diseases were created even more recently.
There is no friggin' way that disease is a recent phenomenon. We can even see it back in the past by looking at genes that have split (in earlier species and then on down into our species) into copies and continued evolving from there. Viruses infect hox genes just like any other.
I don't think we have enough information to say that the universe is infinite. For all we know, it could be discrete at some really tiny fundamental level. I've heard that said, though I seriously doubt it. I tend to see the complete complex numbers used in QM calculations, not just a countable subset.
The short answer to the question as a whole is that Man created God in his own image, partly because people are vain (obvious) and partly because people wanted an explanation for the utility they saw in everything (speculation).

There are many answers that only the MOST HIGH will be able to address and we will find them in due time.
Everything that the LORD MADE is for good reasons. Viruses are made so we advance as human beings, discover plants, discover cures, raise the awareness of how our own bodies function. Many seemingly negative things have caused much knowledge to be increased.
Universe is made infinite, so that we would never get bored. We will have a place to explore even if we can travel at the speed of light, which may be unlikely from what we know at this time. Imagine the most advanced and adventurous person on this Planet can never run out of adventures. If we were all living on a single little island that we have explored and are bored, and we would then wish we did not have the mind to want to explore. Because the Lord saw the possibilities are so limitless, he perhaps made the universe limitless.
How do we know that there is life only on Earth. The first verse of the Quran speaks of the LORD ALMIGHTY as the God of many Worlds!!
We are made in the image of the Creator only in the sense that we have some amount of free will. If not we have physical limitations as our bodies are physical. We must breathe air to live, the Lord Almighty is not indebted to air for his life. We must eat and drink to live, when these requirements do not exist for the MIGHTY ONE, who is ABOVE ALL NEED!! and EVERYTHING NEEDS HIM!! We are made in his image in some respects only. Look at the context of these statements.
We are limited but not completely. Our ancestors lived for centuries on this planet and had more limitations than the birds themselves. Now, no bird can match us in flight. similarly space travel is a possibility and it is evolving. The resources we got which allow us to fly or to travel in space always existed on this same planet. Until we have the vision, we are not allowed success. The Laws of the MIGHTY ONE are amazing, and enduring. He is FAIR. If you strive, he gives you success. If you are lazy, you enjoy your time, but it can not wait for ever for you to get off your behind.
I hope these answers make sense to you.

Why not create viruses? All viruses are not bad.
Why not make an infinite universe? Why would you make something finite (with a definate end)?
Why life only on earth? How do you know that? There are many undiscovered things about this realm.
Humans are made in the image of the creator. Yes, each one of us is unique and made in Gods image. What does that have to do with travel through space?

He created the world and in a fallen world viruses are for us to experience. When Eve partook of the fruit of the tree of THE TREE OF KNOWLEDGE OF GOOD AND EVIL everything on the earth became corrupted. It is necessary to know the good from the evil to be as God.
He did make the universe infinite, it is finite for us here on earth. This is known as temporal. Humans experience temporal death, through Christ they will resurrect and their bodies will be united with their spirits and perfected.
We are limited because this life is the time to prepare to meet God it is not necessary for us to travel beyond the spheres he has inspired man to travel for us to do this. If it were necessary he would allow this to happen.
All you need to know is God lives, his son Jesus Christ atoned and made it possible for us to resurrect and live eternal lives. If all the scientific stuff interests you, you should really take up the God course because this is the only way that you'll ever be able to learn about all the stuff that makes you and I stumble.

1. Virus - Just like, why make ferocious lions and tigers? Simple. It's the life cycle. Predators are just as essential to the food chain as plants and herbivores. Though, the functions of the predators seems bad, they still form an irreplaceable part of any biosphere. Virus's the same.
2. The universe is not infinite. The expansion of it is. How does this tie into "God made everything". What's wrong with an infinitely expansive universe. That means the universe started at one point, actually supporting somewhat, the idea of an initiator.
3. How do you know there is life only on earth? You don't...unless you are all-knowing, which you are not.
4. How does being created in the image and likeness of god tie into space-travel? Being created in the image and likeness of god means our bodies look like the image of god. If we were to look at him, he'd look like us. And in likeness, our intelligence. We have the ability to reason unlike any other creature on earth.

Sin has blocked us from our true potentiala and eternal life. That is why he is coming again to rid the universe of sin and set it back on track.
All humanity is now involved in a great controversy between Christ and Satan regarding the character of God, His law, and His sovereignty over the universe. This conflict originated in heaven when a created being, endowed with freedom of choice, in self-exaltation became Satan, God's adversary, and led into rebellion a portion of the angels. He introduced the spirit of rebellion into this world when he led Adam and Eve into sin. This human sin resulted in the distortion of the image of God in humanity, the disordering of the created world, and its eventual devastation at the time of the worldwide flood. Observed by the whole creation, this world became the arena of the universal conflict, out of which the God of love will ultimately be vindicated. To assist His people in this controversy, Christ sends the Holy Spirit and the loyal angels to guide, protect, and sustain them in the way of salvation. (Rev. 12:4-9; Isa. 14:12-14; Eze. 28:12-18; Gen. 3; Rom. 1:19-32; 5:12-21; 8:19-22; Gen. 6-8; 2 Peter 3:6; 1 Cor. 4:9; Heb. 1:14.)

Why do we get sick, get viruses, and even die? It is for this reason: All of Adam’s offspring were born after his disobedience. Thus his offspring inherited sin and death from him. All men inherit imperfection, because all come from Adam and Eve. As the Bible book of Job tells us: “Who can produce someone clean out of someone unclean? There is not one.” (Job 14:4) Also, at Romans 5:12 the Bible explains: “Through one man [Adam] sin entered into the world and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men.” Just as a perfect piece of machinery cannot be produced from an imperfect mold, so Adam in his imperfection could not produce perfect children, free from sin.—Psalm 51:5 [50:7, Dy]. The effect of Adam and Eve’s sin upon their offspring can be compared with what often happens when people who ignore God’s law and live immorally bring forth children. Such people may get diseased in the sex organs that God gave them to bring forth their children. The children of such “unclean” parents may be born physically or mentally damaged because of the sin of their parents. So, too, our first parents became “unclean,” imperfect, subject to sickness, and finally death. They could pass on to their offspring only what they themselves had: imperfection, with a future of sickness and death. That is why we all grow old and die, and why we so easily do what is wrong.
Our planet earth was created for man. There is no other planet like it. The Bible does not tell us how God feels about space travel. I believe that sometimes too much money is spent on travel throughout our universe, while in the meantime millions go hungry or are homeless everyday. In that case, I do not think God would approve. Showing love and concern for the poor and those less fortunate should be a Christians first priority.
