Taper your dose down each night. For example, tonight only take 5 instead of 6. Do that for a week. Then the following week, take only 4 for the week, etc.

Have you tried any of the prescription sleep aids which are supposed to be non addictive? For example Ambien or Sonata? (I wouldn't recommend Lunesta because it leaves such a metallic taste in your mouth, you'll think you've been poisoned.)

Try exercising if you don't already, or if you are, maybe step it up a notch. Exercise is one of the best cures for insomnia.

Good luck to you, I've been there. Insomnia SUCKS big time.

Don't ever take the sleeping pills route!!

1. They will damage your liver big time and you can get into serious health problems.

2. You will get hooked up on them and you won't be able to have a normal life any more if you don't take your pills everyday.

The sleeping pills industry is damaging our health by capitalizing on our ignorance, and by distracting people from effective and natural ways to deal with this problem. I had been taking prescription sleep medications [Ambien] for over 5 years. It stopped working and I simply took more. Still did not work. Nights were very difficult - medication put me to sleep but I would wake up after 2–3 hours with a strong sympathetic response (fast pulse, pounding heartbeat, wide awake alert). It was a very difficult cycle to break. I was really in bad shape due to lack of sleep.

After years of struggling I was able to cure my insomnia naturally and pretty fast. I followed the Sleep Tracks sleep optimization program, here is their official web -site if you want to take a look: http://www.insomniacure.net

Ohhh..and Good Luck!

You have an addiction to the Benadryl which is the active ingredient in Sominex.. Just because it is Benadryl doesn't make your problem any different than someone who is addicted to other stronger drugs or alcohol... Taking that high of a dosage can have very harm full health effects.. i would definitely discuss this with my Dr. Good Luck!!!

Cut them down gradually and try to introduce other methods of getting urself off to sleep. Things like having a glass of hot milk, avoiding caffiene from 4pm, eating pasta and sleepy carbs for dinner. Relaxing fragrances, sounds ect can all help.
I find that if I write all the stuff I have to do the next day down then my mind realises it doesn't need to think about it any more, and if I remember anything new, I simply add it to the list. Really helps me switch off.

They are not physically addictive (Sominex). It's just an over the counter sleep aid. You are taking too much and it's probably making you more awake. Sominex is an antihistamine which can actually hype you up.

I would just stop taking it.

I've been married & with my husband for almost 13 years & my husband has accussed me of cheating or wanting someone or anyone depending on the situation our whole relationship. He was left by a parent when he was a child ,he felt abandoned & he was cheated on by prior marriage but, I feel like she just couldn't take the constant pressure & accusations. I have never cheated on him I love him but, I am tired & becoming numb.Tired that we can't function as a normal family or have a nice outing without all the tension of him getting upset over something. The way I stand or not able to talk to any man.I never even met my daughters husband for 6 years. I tried to do everything (all crazy things) gave up make up wearing anything nice, having any friends.,going to church, everything. I thought I could prove to him he could trust me.He told me he would trust me after 4 yr then 6yr then 10 & it going on 13 & we are in worse place ,he worse & I am because I feel like I want my life back & tired of always defending myself.I believe he loves me & I feel bad he is this way.I've tried counciling & nothing that I do or say makes it truly better.I am writing to let anyone who is searching for answers to just not give in to crazy demands or give up your life thinking it would be better it won't .

Taper back the sominex, while using a good vitamin B complex. This helps with withdrawing from chemicals.
Increase your exercise routine. If you don't have one, get one. It really does help.
Don't drink alcohol before bedtime, or smoke.
Ask your Dr. for the best advice.

Exercise might help. Jogging. Get a lot of fresh air during the day to wear you out. Ease gradually off of them.
