The answer to your question is no you can not get pregnant having sex during your period. The reason you have a period is because the egg your body has released was never fertilized with male sperm to impregnant you. It is the bodies way of cleansing you. Sex during your cycle can sometimes help reduce cramping. Just be careful period when having sex it's nothing to take for granted. Be safe about it!

Wait until your heaviest days pass, cover the surface where you're having sex with a towel and keep wet wipes within reach for a quick cleanup. When you're ready to do the deed, stick to man-on-top mode because when you're lying down, your menstrual secretions will likely be lighter than when you're upright. If you want to experiment with different positions but don't want to deal with the mess, insert a cervical cap, diaphragm or menstrual cup (an alternative to tampons and pads -- not a method of contraception -- that can be purchased at a local or online drug store) before you get busy.
Just remember, not only is it possible to get pregnant when you have your period, but since the opening of your cervix widens -- to let the unneeded buildup of the uterine lining leave your body -- you can be at increased risk for pelvic infections and HIV. So, unless you and your partner are STD-free, use condoms.

A 'professional' trick is to wash thoroughly first, then place a small piece of sponge, about an inch square, deep into your vagina, right up to the cervix. This will stop/limit the amount of blood that is discharged during the sex. The guy rarely notices the difference with the sponge, unless he's into deep fingering. Just don't forget to remove the sponge immediately afterwards. It also acts as an extra barrier to sperm, but you should still use a condom to be absolutely sure.

You sound as if you must be young? asking about pregnancy urban legends! The truth:
You can have sex during your period, it may:
Be messy
Put the man/boy off
Smell
Be more arousing for you (hormones!)
Get you talked about (if ur a teenager)
But it will not harm you.
You CAN get pregnant at any time.
It is not usual for a female to become pregnant during this time of the menstural cycle, BUT it has happened, particularly to younger females who's cylcles are less well defined, physically and hormonally.

Pete M your a classic.
Reading everyones message I think majority is right. Yes to both. But for you regardless of your age I think you should get thorough information from your local GP. From the sounds of your question you seemed worried therefore I'd put off having sex during your period.
Goodluck.

You can't have sex until you're in a long-term serious relationship with a man who wouldn't want to have sex when you are on your period. However, yes, you can have sex on your period, although I would think it would be very messy, and women have gotten pregnant but it is very unlikely, it sort of depends on what day you're on of your period.

Yes, it's not very nice though think about it! But you can also get pregnant so I'd use protection. You need protection even if you aren't on anyway because of diseases and risk of gettin pregnant. How old are you? You should know this!! If you don't, your probably not old enough to be doing it I would think. But you do need protection deffo...even if you aint old enough protection is all you need at the end of the day.
