usually party stores carry a throw away party tray that is kept warm by a candle underneath, not sure what they are called. At kitchen/baking stores, some of the glassware (say a 9x9 dish) comes with or you can buy separately an insulated warming cover, that actually fits the dish inside of it to keep your food warm. Also some grocery stores carry special bags that you can place a dish in to keep warm (or cold) for a period of time. I think once you use them you throw them away.
If you have a crock pot on low, usually the non teflon kind you can keep things warm. If you have a roaster you can set it to warm to keep something warm as well. You could try taking a cardboard box, placing bricks you have warmed in the oven, and your dish from the oven wrapped in foil once it is out (with a couple holes for venting) inside the box and insulating with towels so everything is snug and warm. If you are serving pancakes at home as I cook them, I put them on a plate that is oven safe on warm. Works like a charm.

I know what you're talking about, and you can definitely buy something like that at Kitchens Etc. or Linens & Things. You want something you can bring to the table?
I usually just put the oven on warm (250), and put a baking pan in there, and leave the pancakes on the baking sheet. If we're going to eat them within half an hour, that's a fine solution and the food doesn't dry out. When I'm done cooking & am ready to serve, then I put them on a platter and bring them to the table.
or just plate them straight out of the oven....
