A house wife usually is not a mother and keeps house; a home maker makes the home for the husband and the kids by making sure everything is in order for them.
I think that is the difference.

A house wife is married to a house. Like that Dr. on TV. If a woman married him she'd be Mrs. House. A home maker is someone who makes homes. Like a general contractor. Be sure they're licensed, or you could end up with a home wrecker. BTW, marrying a house is not legal in all states.

A housewife is someone who sit s around and watches tv and only does what she has to keep the house. A home maker is a cheerful person who really gets into making a "home",saves money for her family, makes many of the household items like curtains, etc, volunteers to help the needy, cooks real meals, teaches her children to be productive students and adults later, nurtures her family spiritually-physically-emotionally, and makes sure everyone is taken care of at home. It is a happy "home."
