People came here to be free and have religious freedom.
How do we get back to being the much stronger people we once were? We have to clean house. How long would my home last with the bugs, dust, rain, sun, rust, rain, termites if I did nothing? Not long! We have to understand that our constitution and way of life has been under attack for over 200 years. We need to look at the blueprint, understand it, clean house and fix the pillars.
We used to be on a solid rock, but we have allowed the foundation of our nation to shift, to get eroded, and now we are on quicksand. I fear for the future.

You need to stop hoping. It doesn't matter. America was never a "religious" country like England or France. Simply in the past, the Judeo-Christian morals were more prevalent. Nothing in the Constitution or Bill of Rights is directly related to any relgious document.
By the way, I'm a Christian.

Cullin,
Yes, I can be proud to be an American. The straying away is evidenced by the types of responses that you are getting.
I'll bet these people responding to you don't even have a book aboout the founding fathers in their possession, let alone read one.
You just keep your eyes on Jesus. These are the signs of the times. You ready to go?

Because of the freedoms America provides for it's citizens. The country didn't stray the people strayed. America wasn't found, it was taken from the Indians.

of course. as both, i am apalled by the events that lead up to our society as it is now, but i see the ability to evolve our politics and our prejudice so that we may become more proud.
i know some are going to say that the u.s. was not founded as a christian nation, but read the documents such as the declaration of independence, and others. they will prove that the intent was to not specify whether baptist or catholics or other group was to be a state religion, but the involvement of God is there for all to see.
the separation of church and state was not in the constitution or any other federal document. this was a letter sent between founders that wanted to forbid a state run church, but it was never put in the constitution or ammedments, in any form other than to state that a person cannot be persecuted or prosecuted for their religious beliefs.

Yes, you can be proud to be AMERICAN! :)
To be an american, doesnt mean you have to embrace all of its policies!
Be your own person, be a child of God...be first proud of the person God has made you!
And then be proud that God has put you in a free and rich country- your a blessed person!!!
:) I dont see anything wrong with it.

america was never founded on christian beliefs. Quite the contrary. The founding fathers were adamant about keeping church and state completely seperate.
After all, freedom is the distance between the two.

Because not all Americans have abused what had made this country great and blessed to begin with. The percentage that haven't can still hold their heads up and pray for the rest of us!

Wasn't America founded on rebellion, not wanting to pay taxes and the right to own slaves?
What parts of that are Christian again?
