Dont take iron unless your blood test shows you have a deficiency.
Iron should be taken on an empty stomach to increase its absorption. However, it commonly causes upset stomach and constipation. If that happens, u cn take it with food, which will decrease the absorption and also decrease the stomach upset.

Yes, I have had to take iron tablets, because of being anemic after having my second child. They do make you upset at your stomach, but you just have to eat 15 minutes before you take them, and if you get constipated from them, drink plenty of apple juice and or eat lots of fiber in your diet. The iron will make you feel better after taking the tablets for about a week.

THey can cause black stools as not all of the iron is absorbed in the gut.
Thye shouldn't upset you stomach, but the best thing to do to prevent any upset (and increase the absorption of the iron) take them with food, or with a glass of OJ in the morning with breakfast. The vitamin C on the OJ increases iron absorption.
The best thing to do tho is to go to ur doctor as the right dose may not be available in the shops (it's not to build up stores in the UK, just maintain a daily intake).

I have a pretty tough stomach but i have taken iron tablets and they have made me a little sick feeling. I always take it with a piece of bread or something filling so that it isnt the only thing in there and that helps a lot.

not the King's because I don't take them. I take a multi vitamin. But, too much iron is not good for your stomach. And yes, I do agree, take any vitamin or suppliment with a meal. See too much Iron will have your stool very hard. This is your body telling you to lower this intake. Take it every other day or something like that.

Yes, iron pills can upset the tummy. I found that out when I was having a baby. In fact people can be allergic to them (like I am.....l can't get my breath.) If you need more iron eat cream of wheat. That will really raise your iron. I was borderline anemic but after eating cream of wheat for awhile I was fine. Hope this helps.

Yes, take it with food or milk. Check with your doctor, as well. You could be taking too much. Get more iron by eating dark green leafy vegetables instead.
