Ha ha ha, God that brings back memories. It starts when they reach 13 and usually ends by 16, my nephew (who's 11) may have started already though, grunts and "Yeahs" are already starting, at the moment it's only towards his mum, it will spread though. Try asking open ended questions, don't give them the opportunity to say "yeah", "nuh" or "God" I have a 9 year old too, was only talking to a colleague the other day about the dreaded teens.

No, you can't stop them. This is a terminal illness and unfortunately the best thing you can do is ignore them until they leave to join the army like the rest of them.

They do eventually grow out of it when they start to mature up and out-grow the high school mentality.

Talk back to them in the same lingo. It's very embarassing for them, and they'll soon decide it's not so cool. I do it to my younger brothers. They resort to sarcastic standard English.

And yes, they will grow out of it, don't panic.

Hopefully they grow out of it!! My daughter started talking to me like I was one of her friends, I kept correcting her or just ignored her. She soon got the message and now speaks to me properly.
