Why would a guy who just wants to be friends (although he wouldn't mind being friends with benefits) be sad, when I mention another guy? He doesn't want a commitment or anything. He's actually seeing someone else, although it's not serious. He wanted to know if the new guy was something long-term or not. I just don't get why it would matter to him.

Just to add a little bit: My friend thinks he made up the girlfriend. He's actually 25, so he's not a teenage. You'd think he'd know what he wants by now.

It matters because he has feelings for U. This other girl (bless her heart) is just something to pass his time. He wants too be with U but he's afraid too make the first move. If U want him, tell him to end things with the other girl first, U don't wanna be the cause of that. Then the two of U can talk about hooking up. But he needs to do the right thing and end one relationship before he starts another.

He has a little bit of feelings for you. Have you been friends with this person for long?Or maybe it's just being overly a friend.
He may not like the guy that your talking to, just mainly because he may think hes a jerk.

listen to yourself, your hoping to hear that he really does want you but you know that's not the case...he is a guy , wants his cake and eat it too and how is he going to do that if your giving yourself away to someone else...he is just being selfish...don't read any commitment within his sadness...he just knows without anyone else in the picture he could have you too.

It is obvious he has feelings for you, particularly if his relationship isn't serious.
He may say he doesn't want to commit, because he's scared you will reject him completely. But I think if you did become more than friends he would commit.
From what you've said, he really likes you and would like for things to progress further.

Because he wants to be friends with benifits but guys don't like doing a chick who's doing someone else. Kind of gross.

you should read the love stories or watch a girlie movie and youll get your answer. i think maybe something like " a best friends wedding" or " never been kissed"or what was that one with alicia silverstone...rollin with the homies.... anyway, the ending's always a good one. if you dont have a chance to... he likes you and you like him! just quit playing the mind games.

Because he probably wants his cake & eat it too. Obviously, he is selfish and wants you to be there just in case anything happens with the girl he is dating.

it's a double standard. kind of like when i girl cheats on a guy, and it's ok, but she leaves him when she finds out he's been doing the same thing.
