I personally like K-9 over Frontline. K-9 works better for all of mine. From what I understand.......K-9 goes under the skin through the body of the dogs and Frontline stays on top of the skin. Both are waterproof, but after I use k-9 I don't have to treat for about 2-3 months. Frontline I still saw fleas after 3 weeks.

Well, none of the products are waterproof- including Frontline. They will all wash off- Frontline just washes off to a lesser extent than the advantage/ advantix because it is oil based. But the whole reason to wash a dog is to get rid of the oils on the skin- so Frontline does wash off. They are all good products- just depends on what you need it for. Are you having a problem with ticks or just fleas? Use the product that is right for your dog- if it is just fleas, use advantage. Please make sure your dog is on heartworm prevention even if you use advantix- this product does not protect against heartworm disease, even if it does repel mosquitoes. I use Revolution on all of my pets- does fleas and heartworms for everything.

Frontline Plus is water proof, it works against Fleas (Of all stages), Ticks, and different types of chewing lice. Advantix is meant for fleas, ticks and mosquitos, though I've not heard many good things on its effectiveness. Advantage ONLY works against fleas and it is not water proof. Our vet clinic and my personal experience says frontline is the better product, though switching back and forth as time goes on helps alot as well. Though, I stay soley on the frontline as a defense against fleas AND ticks... I think it works fine, and it did wonders for my puppies when they were your chihuahua's age.
Any product like Hartz for example isn't that good of a product and generally doesn't work for most people.. If you want a good product (Especially for the Price) go with a brand that your local vet sells.. Whether you choose Frontline, Advantix, or Advantage.. if you're going to buy something, you may as well get your money's worth ; )

Advantix is the only one that protects against mosquitos, but if you already have the dog on heartworm preventative, that's not really an issue. They all have slightly different minimum age requirements before you can start them. I'm pretty sure all of them work through absorption into the skin, so they would all be waterproof. After it's absorbed, a coating of it grows on the dog's hair. Just be sure to use the smallest dosage, because your baby is tiny!

Get the Hartz little squeeze bottle flea stuff. One year my dog was infested bad and I spent $200 on different things including stuff from the vet. The Hartz bottles were the only thing that worked. It's little tiny bottles like a superglue bottle that come in a two-pack for about $5 and you put a couple drops by the neck and a couple drops right above the tail.
