If store treatments dont work, the home remedies include applying olive oil, mayonaise, or vaseline to the hair, but i do NOT recommend the last two as they prove troublesome to remove from the hair. Try heating up about a cup of olive oil and leaving it on the hair for about an hour or so, as it will smother the lice and the eggs will be easier to remove. Then rinse the scalp and use a nit removing comb and comb through really well. Repeat again in two days and again in 7 days and you should be lice free in no time.

I feel for you. My poor daughter seems to be very susceptible to head lice. She seems to pick them up, when no one else in the family has them or gets them. The dang things can almost be impossible to get rid of sometimes. Make sure you are changing your bedding regularly. Wash everything in hot water and make sure you use the hottest settings on the dryer. Bag anything that cannot be washed, such as pillows, stuffed animals, etc. for at least 2 weeks. If the store treatments don't seem to be cutting it, contact a doctor and get prescription strength shampoos, like kwell. Do not overuse the shampoos, however, as it can be risky.
Make sure you use the nit combs regularly and wash and check your hair daily. You can also get an aerosol spray for furniture and mattresses. RID makes some, check with your pharmacist.
Good luck.

Tea Tree Oil seems to repel the pests - there is a shampoo you can buy that is gentle to use. Once you have them there is no easy way to get rid of them - vacuum and wash all bedding and dry on high - physically remove all of the live lice and eggs attached to hair. After you use a lice treatment if you rinse with 1/4 cup of white vinegar it seems to help them slip off the hair a bit easier.
They don't like hair products so we used gel in our child's hair until we were sure everything was gone and the class was clean.

You should try an over the counter topical solution. I believe the most recognized brand out there is R.I.D or R.I.T. Anyways, it may take a few applications. Also, and this is just as important, you need to wash EVERYTHING!. Sheets, pillowcases, clothes, and toys, especially any stuffed animals. I've heard of people putting the stuffed animals in black plastic garbage bags and leaving them out in the sun for a few days. This should kill any unhatched and adult lice. Hope this helps and good luck.

store treatments do work, but you need to wash EVERYTHING, bed sheets, towels, clothes anything that has come in contact with the person that has head lice. You'll keep getting them if you don't.

my cousin has the same problem at school, always getting lice from a friend, until...... u treat with something from the pharmacy, use Head and Shoulders shampoo a few times a week and always use gel in your hair, preferably Dippity Do gel, something in the Head and Shoulders kills them and washes them out and something in the Dippity Do gel prevents then from sticking 2 the hair and scalp.

A couple of drops of tea tree oil (bought at a health food store), mix it in your hand with your regular shampoo. Rinse hair with cider vineger. We have used this for years and has never failed.
