I have not tried it myself. However, when I was in 11th grade, we took a trip to Prague, where Absinth is legal. Many of my classmates tried it. It was pretty scary. Everybody seemed to react differently to it. One guy started beating himself up until he was bleeding. Another guy attempted to jump out of his hotel room on the 13th floor. One girl only had one tea spoon of Absinth and she got extremely hot, and her face turned bright red. Several guys urinated on themselves because they had lost control of their bladder. We ended up calling a doctor, and he said to drink lots and lots of water and that whoever was sober needed to keep an eye on the other ones. He also said that the ones who consumed Absinth can not be held responsible for their actions, because they have absolutely no idea what they are doing.

Absinthe (check your spelling) is a distillate of wormwood (an indigenous European shrub). Since wood alcohol can cause blindness, it has been banned everywhere. Even in Prague, where you can buy somebody's sister and no one bats an eye, the Absinthe is a cheap imitation (basically Anis liqueur with green food dye). For the real thing, you would have to go to a private party with knowledgeable hosts. The only place where this is going on, that I know of, in the U.S., is in San Francisco.

Yes, but I did not have enough. I believe you'd have to drink 4-5 shots before hallucinating. I had only 2 and the effect was only calming.

well.. yes... and no, I didn't hallucinate.... was just a very happy drunk.. and VERY drunk.
If you tried the crap they sell in the U.S. you're wasting your time... the stuff they sell overseas is good. There's a certain thing you have to do to bring about the hallucinations... at least, to my knowledge. And just like anything, over time it gets watered down and not as potent as in years passed. It's all about the buck!

I tried it while in Europe once. I have a pretty high tolerence for liquor, and I was really, really drunk after about four shots. I didn't hallucinate... I doubt that there's really enough wormwood in it to make you hallucinate unless you drank lots of it habitually.
It tastes pretty nasty, though. *shudder*
