Why doesn't YOUR church or religion step up to the plate ?

Question

Every day 35000+ children starve to death. What is your church and/or religion doing about it. If they DO anything, it's obviously not enough. Does charity end at the border ? How would you justify churchleaders living in splendor when they should instead spread the money among the poor. Why do we have a state (vatican) run by a religion which is worth BILLIONS and how can the so-called religious people in said state live with themselves and their faith, while Millions die of hunger ?

esero26: the catholic church obviously has wealth. The collegs/churches did NOT help the child which just died.
I'm also talking aboy ALL religions, not just the catholic one, though they seem to flaunt their wealth more than many others.

righton : how so. As far as I know all major religions preach charity. Yet most of them also have house of worship adorned by gold.

Of course I don't blame chucrhes for faime. However, I do blame churches for not doing more about it.
Stuller: You need the press to feel accomplished ? And then, IS your charity borderbound ?

Do you know how many people the 1BILLION dollar one bomber costs could feed - or better yet teach people how do feed themselves ? If we're a "christian" nation, aren't our priorities wrong ? Bombs instead of bread ?

MeteoMike: I don't believe in god. That's not an excuse though as religions/churches preach charity - it doesn't really matter then whether god is real or not as he obviously chose not to intervene.

my church does. we give "love" offerings, out of our regular offerings. we sponsor food programs among other things including missionaries.

but i agree with the billions and billions....it seems contradictory to me to have that much wealth and just sit back and watch the suffering.

Do not blame the churches, or religion on the disasters of this world, and yes, children starving to death is terrible. But the responsibility to save those children isn't the church's. Yes, there are some people who fear God, who have money, and with prayer, that money is being put to good use. Why don't you ask the non-believers who also make a lot of money to share their wealth, too. There are some of both sides, that share, but ultimately, it comes down to the individual. The parents who have these children.

It isn't money that these kids need, because there will never be enough money to go around, and who would want to handle such an edeavor, then finding the organization to take the lead? Who would lead this organization?

You want to see these children saved? Pray. Will it work? One way to find out. Angelina adopts a couple kids, did that solve the world's hunger problem? A lot of people give money, religous or otherwise and the problem is still there. Think about it. Take care.

I'll agree some churches do seem a little hypocritical on this issue. However, my church tries it's best to give what it can- obviously it needs money to pay for the workers, do youth groups, maintenance, etc. but they try to give whatever. They not only reach out in their neighborhood, but also in the world.
Religious people try to give, bu I do not believe they are the only ones- look at Bill Gates.
However, you are you are wrong in thinking that charity ends at the border or that church leaders live in splendor- because they don't.

Also, people could say that if atheists- like you- believe in giving, why is there so much poverty. Now I realize that there may be fewer atheists, but they could still have an impact, some one could say.

It's not the Objective reason for being to tackle the entire worlds hunger problem. I'm saying that it is not the main reason for the ' church' to exist. There is so much money to help with, and I don't know of a major church that doesn't, and so much money for the church to do other things with. You know, a budget.

I know some that go to Mexico and build floors in Mexican homes so that the family doesn't have to sleep on the floor. Is that the church doing that? What is the Mexican government doing about it? Nothing. The rich of Mexico control Mexico. It's the Mexican rich that won't go down the slippery slope of making things better for their people. Not even a reservior for water in populated poor areas.

Don't blame the church for the poor it causes. The churches are doing what they can, it's the stinking governments greed that makes those people poor!

Well, the Catholic church is a pretty big orginization, you're not going to be able to run it on ten dollars.
There is a lot of help going out from the churches, it's just that people can only do so much and eventually they are over expanded. Also, it's alot easier to help the people starving nest door than the people starving on the other side of the world; that's why millions of people are dying of hunger in a third-world country instead of millions of people dying in the more industrialized world.

I know you are referring to the Roman Catholic Church. They do a lot of good works, and , no I am not Catholic. I am a Baptist. Our church is very mission minded. If you don't think so, the Red Cross took all the credit for feeding the Katrina Victims, when it was the Churches of every faith did all the cooking and cleaning up the mess down in Louisiana and Mississippi. In fact two of our church ladies went. One came back and went down again. Just because the Red Cross got all the press, the churches were indeed there. Just ask Condaleeza Rice.

Why doesn't God save the innocent starving people himself? Does charity end at heaven? Obviously they pray for help, because the destitute have the highest ratio of believers of any income bracket. The simple answer is that God is imaginary.

Our church supports 20 missionary's and I give to Feed the Children sometimes and Bridge of Hope to drill water wells I support Pat Roberson's charitable endeavors.More churches should do more, but many are poor.

Catholicism is a man-made religion bent on wealth!
The Vatican's Catholic organization is the richest company in the world! They are slick and they are liars! It is a cult and it has everybody bound thru intimidation and fear... which works well on the ignorant!

They need all those starving children. That's how they get into third world countries to brainwash them into becoming christians. Anyone who doesn't go along with the program becomes a casualty.
