A calorie is a unit of energy. We tend to associate calories with food, but they apply to anything containing energy. For example, a gallon (about 4 liters) of gasoline contains about 31,000,000 calories. Many of the responses posted are correct in the claim that celery has a 'negative caloric value' because of the energy used in chewing, digesting, and raising to body temperature. It is also true that warm celery would have more calories than chilled celery. It fact, it has been proven that you can lose up to four pound a month by drinking very cold water. Hope this helps.

Celery, like almost all vegetables is low in calories. It is also high in organic sodium which is useful to the body in many ways including optimal digestion. A delicious and healthy morning beverage can be made by juicing 2 apples and 3 stalks of celery. I like to add a twist of lime or lemon to this. try it for a week and see how much better you feel! I always also add some pure water to thin it out a bit.

I would guess that the average celery stalk contains about 8-10 grams of calories. You will probably burn half that amount eating it. And it is still better (for you but not taste) then a cup cake!

I don't know how many it has, but the rumor is that you burn the same number of calories chewing and digesting celery, so there is a net result of zero calories!
