If evolution didn't happen, and the flood did happen, and two of every animal were put on the ark, how come we have breeds? It doesn't seem possible if everything in the Bible is true.

Ok...a lot of you are implying that some bits of the Bible cannot be taken literally, and that some of it might not mean exactly what it says. But I know of people who take the Bible exactly as it's written - God made the world in seven days by saying "let there be [whatever he wants there to be on that particular day]" and so there was. Some of the people I've spoken to find the idea of evolution completely ludicrous. I have no problem with you answering if you don't take the Bible literally, but I more wanted to see what people who do had to say about it.

momof3, what do you mean, how can there be dogs in the first place if evolution is true? Evolutionists believe all dogs are descended from the grey wolf.

If evolution and creation both happened, God made Adam and Eve in his own image, and we evolved from apes, this means God has the appearence of an ape. If that's true, fine, but to the best of my knowledge that's not the idea people have of him. In that case, evolution cannot have taken place and be in keeping with what the Bible says.

ku_dude 02 - so God made every animal and they began to evolve. The came the flood and my question, which what you wrote doesn't really answer.

We have breeds of animals, because of a few things.
Climate change would help understand longer thicker fur in some animals and not in others.
Human interbreeding of same kinds of animals would account for much of the different breeds.
But for evolution to work in its true theory, we would have to be able to breed a horse with a dog or a cat or any other type of animal, as they would have had to come from the same basic single cell.
For that matter if we came from ape like creatures, we would still today have to be able to continue to breed with that kind of animal, and we thankfully, cannot. Evolution disproved, not even any longer a theory in actual scientific circles.

You are a little confused on some of the details here. Christians don't refute the concept of evolution, they refute that we evolved from primordial ooze. Once God created the earth, animals, and man, everything was free to change from there. We have evidence of Cro Magnum man and extinct animals. This is all proof of evolution since the creation of the earth.
This is not refuted in the Bible. It can even be said that the creation of earth can be lined up with a version of the Big Bang Theory. Think about it, God could have caused the bang and directed all the pieces to fall into place like they did. There is no literal time table on the creation of earth in the Bible. Although 7 days was said, the concept of day did not exist at that time. It is most likely a translation for "time period." Seven periods of time could mean anything...maybe even 7 million years.
The Bible is not refuted with any of this.

As a Christian I do believe the story of Noah. I don't on the other hand believe that we came from apes and we evolved, but that doesn't mean that I don't believe in evolution. Of cause its possible, just not the ape rubbish. Evolution is still happening, animals adapt to the environment and even humans do too. So yeah I can believe in that stuff. But the amazing thing is God is at the centre of it all. Whether it happens or not God is in control. How cool is that?

In Genesis 1, God made animals according to their kinds. The reason we have breeds, is that the animals then had much richer gene pools than they do now - thus by natural selection in different environments, different genes prevailed (Note this is micro-, not macro-evolution, i.e. diversity within genus and species, rather then inter-species)
All the breeds of animals had their blueprints in the pairs that were taken into the ark in the same way that all races of people came from just Noah and his wife - hope that makes sense, let me know if not and I'll try to explain it better :)

A creatures genetic code contains an extremely large amount of information. Some of this information is dominant, and some of it is passive. When offspring are produced, they may inherit the dominant or passive traits of any of their parents. Some of these traits enable the creatures to survive or reproduce more easily in certain situations. Should the environment demand it, these traits will over the generations become dominant, and eventually remove all the other competitng traits from the genepool of that population. This process is known as micro-evolution, or speciation. It is not evolution, in the goo to zoo to you sense, in fact it is the opposite. Speciation involves the loss of genetic traits as opposed to the gaining of new ones as evolution requires. Speciation, though usually a slow process, can occur in one or two generations in hostile conditions or when conditions rapidly change, such as after Noah's flood. In this way, a single genus of animal can create hundreds of species in a relatively short period of time.

well, for one thing, the bible actually never says that evolution didnt happen, evolution from an ape didnt happen, but evolution in general happened. second, a flood actually did happen, not of the entire world as we know it today, but of the entire world as they knew it back then...you need to remember that they didnt know much about the world and their span of the world that existed was small and so the flood of those rivers (forgot their names) actually did occur. dont know about the arc thing, thats weird. but breeds, there could be some cross breeds, or some new animals came after the flood happened from new worlds, or romans introduced new animals when they came, etc. anyways, who takes the entire bible literally anyways?! man, that would be hard to live by

Every breed now is from its own kind from creation to now. A dog is a dog despite if you cross breed him with a different dog they are all dogs. Man through time has manipulated animals for their own means, look at cows, for example - the aggression were bred out of them to make them domestic. The difference in breed is not the same as a difference in species they are all still the same species.
Selective breeding has brought tremendous improvements such as hornless cattle, white turkeys, and seedless oranges, but all the organisms continue to reproduce exactly as God decreed at Creation - after its kind.
But it still remains fact that we did not all come from one common ancestor or life can start from no life or an object that has no life to begin with.

Because the genetic make up of every breed is in one pair no matter what breed as long as they are two of a kind, a Collie and a Doberman could produce all breeds just as Adam and Eve produced all the races, peoples, and tongues. They can eat grasses same as other animals.

There are new breeds and species being found everyday. Animals just like people adjust to their environment. They can evolve for survival. Also, mix-breeds. I always say there isn't a true race. We all have a little of something else in us. ex. Black, Italian & Native American Indian. Animals are the same.

Because if you find animals that are similar enough, they will produce offspring that share the DNA of the parents in one form or another.
The Bible does not disprove Evolution. And neither will Evolution disprove God. You've got to get that out of your head.
