New York City hostels are plentiful, in fact there is a site dedicated to just the ones that cost less than 25 dollars! (twizi.com)
In general though you can expect to pay between 20 and 40 dollars a night for hostels in Manhattan. Most include breakfast, linens etc. but it is important to read their descriptions well because most hostels (and hotels for that matter) in NYC don't include taxes in their prices (tax is around 12%).
