I am a Catholic and although I do not agree with all others beliefs or non beliefs I am trying not to intentionally profane what another holds in high esteem. Why do some people seem to actually enjoy insulting anothers beliefs?

I am not talking about challenging anything but about obviously vulgar comments. And why do you think it is your job to convert us anymore than you want us to do the same to you?

Usually it is ignorance or fear. It is what I refer to as "contempt prior to investigation".

In some cases, it is just people being stupid. In other cases, it is people reacting to what they feel is an extremely annoying tendency of some religious people to preach their beliefs as if they were the truth. I don't think anyone has a problem with someone saying "I believe X". But when people say "X is true and God agrees with me", or something to that effect, then those people are basically profaning what is sacred to those who don't share their beliefs. Not surprising that people don't like to be told that they are rotten, no good, and going to hell just because they disagree with some believer's beliefs.

Don't get me wrong. I am NOT accusing you of doing the above. I'm just answering your question about why some people react so strongly, to the point of profaning others beliefs.

With me, it's just my personality.

If I figure that I have been attacked or smeared, I react with equal force. Sometimes, like with that guy showing pictures of dead children, I load both barrels and fire away!

Remember Debra M, we are in the last days, I know that Roman Catholics don't tend to be Dispensationalists, but you'll come around to that. What I am saying about that is the time is ending for those to make a choice. And pussyfooting around doesn't get the message across to many.

There were times when prophets roamed the land, and those times are coming. They may already be here. There's wars and rumors of wars, earthquakes in diverse places, Israel a nation and Damascus being threatened. The prophets didn't say nice things to people, and gently talk about subjects so that people would peacably respond. No. They said things that got them thrown in jail, tortured, killed, stoned to death, hated, persecuted in many ways.

So it's not that people are challenging others, it's what they are saying to challenge others. If God is for them, then who can be against them?

Playing nice is done by many. But the way I have been raised by God is of strife. I will not value what other men might think of me, but God only.

Some might believe that "cleansing" out other people's beliefs by destroying their faith is part of their moral responsibility. This corrupt form of belief system is seen throughout the globe.

Others, like Neo-Nazi's, show prejudice and race discrimination because they believe qualities they share are supperior to their victims. Thier hatred for differences throughout the world feeds their need to profane any religion or race that isn't their own.

It is this evil which I believe, in mild and extreme forms, disrupts and destroys the human race. Without this evil, we could all be able to respect our differences and get along.

Actually you are a bit confused. Challenging nonsense is not insulting a belief. It is challenging nonsense.

Why do people hang onto nonsense?

Not all Christians, Muslims, Jews, etc. are bad, and not all atheists. The people who spend their time on this site trying to demonize religious folk are losers. And losers always try to make themselves feel better, even if it means putting someone else down.

Because people are basically ignorant and barbaric. As an agnostic myself, I love to discuss (debate) all manner of issues. That said, being malicious is a sure sign of ignorance.

Probably because they don't have the ability to have a good discussion about differing points of view and resort to being rude.
