I'm not sure if this will qualify as discrimination. You can file a complaint with INS or the Justice Department. If you mother has a visa and is a foreign national, her government can file a formal complaint with the US Department of State.

Foreign nationals are not considered a protected class under an discrimination statutes that I am aware.

sad to hear from your mom's story.all I can say, if she is safe now and made her way to get into your country.. and she is not in jail or try to sign her a paper with her statement then just take it as an experience and be careful next time.
your mom is not the only person that has the same story but that's the way it goes. ...
as they tried to forced her to say lies, when we are on travel we become tired and frustrated, sometimes misunderstanding occur and the way we got frustrated, the more we don't understand what we heard.. and even your mom did say something that she thinks was right, she might be misunderstood.
Next time she visits, ask her to carry pictures of your family and her stay in your place or anything that proves that she is really visiting you..even a postcard would help to show your address and any mails that would prove you have communication regarding her visiting to your place..
hope your mom would have a pleasant time with you and your family after this..

NM505, it enlightem me too when I heard that..

Honey, people who work for CPB have far better things to do than "discriminate" against a lady with a valid visa. They may have taken her to secondary and asked her questions, but that's sometimes part of the process of proving that you should be allowed to enter the US. Nobody joins such government service because they don't like other kinds of people

According to a friend of mine who works at a US Port-of Entry, amidst accusations of racism in the US Customs and Border Patrol and INS agencies, these agencies now have a "professionalism program" where they are trying to treat everyone with respect and professionalism. Anyone with a complaint is encouraged to speak to a superviser in the agency to let them know of the problem, and supposedly they are taking these complaints very seriously to improve their operations.

Just wondered what lies did they force her to make-up? Are you talking about an Immigration Officer in an airport? You better get your story straight or clearer so you can get better answers instead of nonsense response.

Unless she is in custody or jail - nothing. You can make a complaint to internal affairs or whoever, but what happens if anything is not your business after that.
