They are irritating to make, and irritating to receive. What's wrong with a simple slice of cake?

LOL!!! I have thought of this myself....after paying for the party, the cake , the b/day presents...the last thing I think about is the bags! And it always sneaks up on me! At the last minute I am out there buying things for the "party bags." I agree..I don't remember getting "party bags" when I was a kid! You should be happy to go to the party and get some cake!
God forbid you have 2 kids and they don't receive the SAME "party" gifts!!??

Ya know, I've never fully understood why *everyone* gets a gift on someone else's birthday! I do believe a little "thank you" token is appropriate, but some people really go overboard and then it turns into a frickin' competition. "Suzy's birthday party had better gift bags..."

For the last few birthday parties for my kids I've gotten a big bunch of balloons to use as decorations, and then as each kids leaves they get a balloon and a party favor. For one party it was a water toy, for another it was sidewalk chalk. But I don't give candy anymore. The last thing I need is everyone hating me for giving their kids hyper pills and sending them home!

They're only irratating to make if you put the wrong things in them. Kids only need simple things to be happy and if you stress over a goodie bag then they aren't going to be enjoyable. And they are also only irritating to receive if the parents who put them together put crap in them that kids don't need or want.

I HATE PARTY BAGS!!!! Luckily, most of my friends do too, so we have mostly agreed to not do them, makes life easier for us all that the kids know what to expect at each others parties and then there's none of the whining and bitching about them.... bloody expensive too, and on top of the party food and drink and jumping castles etc, really is it any wonder children are so damn demanding?

I had never heard of party favor bags until I moved to the 'burbs! I cannot stand them! I would much rather spend the money on a gift for my child.
I also hate having them come home. Usually, its just junk to toss out. Parents, save your money, let's get rid of these things!

don't know what they are, must be new since my kids were in school. cake is sugary and bad for kids. which are becoming obese.
cake is messy and requires a knife, plates, napkins and washing hands. plus calculation as far as what size pieces to cut. i'm guessing the bags are for ease/convenience of the teacher. if you go to school and dispense the cake maybe that would be ok with them - reduce their workload.
i forgot get on PTA to work for changes you want at your school.

I agree. You spend a small fortune on your kids birthday and the whole party is summed up by what they get in the party bag. It is crazy and it shows how selfish parents are raising their children to be. Most parents agree but won't say anything. Thanks for being honest, it's about time :)

I'm a parent but my kids are well grown now. The only thing I would say to you is, if you don't believe in party bags....don't do them. As in many aspects of life,do what YOU feel is right, and I for one will admire you for it :-)
