It totally depends on two things, the type of debt and your states homestead exemption laws.
If you are exempt in both aspects, that law firm is extremely violating your rights by using those threats. Do you have anything in writing or on tape proving that they are threatening you? If not, be sure to keep a "detailed" log of what was said, who said it, the date and time of the call etc., etc., etc.
You should speak with an atty about those threats.
Please go to the site I've listed and do some reading. Learn your rights !!!
There are also links where you can find your states exemption statutes.
It is a free site, no spam of any kind. But - lot's of great info.

It depends on the debt. At most all they can do is slap a lien against your home so that you can't sell your home until you pay off the entire lien. Call legal services or call a lawyer who can give you free advise that is the best way. A lot of lawyers use scare tactics. I know because I dated one once.

If they threaten you, harrass you or cal you ore than once a day they are going against the fair debt collection act.

They can put a lien on your home, meaning you will be undable to sell it until the debt is paid, but unless the debt is for property taxes or your mortgage, they can't make you sell your home.

No. This is incorrect.
They can in fact take you to court to for the cash, and if a decision is made against you, you need to pay them.
If you don't have available funds, your wages will be garnered or items of yours will be sold. However, fundamentals such as a home will not be touched for such a small amount.
Regardless, if they call back record the conversation and then wait for them to take you to court. You could mitigate the actual damages down.

false, unless you pledged your home as collateral for a loan. In that case they would have taken it already.
Even if you file bankruptcy, they cannot force you to sell your home.
If the debt is for taxes they could place a lien on your home, and your bank can accellerate your mortgage - meaning the entire mortgage debt is payable now. In that case you might be forced to sell.

Did you pledge your home as collateral for the debt? Are you now 3+ months behind in your payment of this debt? If so, it's possible! You need to check with your lawyer.

No, no one can force you to do this. Sounds like there's a debt collector calling you and overstepping their bounds (again...lots of bad ones do this). Do some research online about your rights, clearly this agency is in the wrong.

Not unless they have placed a judgment against the property. Have you ever been served with legal papers suing you for this debt?
