Spanish instead of French is good if you live in/plan to stay in the Southwest U.S. French is a lot better as a global language--people in Africa, the Middle East, Europe all speak it. Plus, I think French is prettier :-)

Yeah, I'd like to know WHY when I live in AMERICA that my college is REQUIRING me to take a foreign language, and really pushing spanish for bilingual pay incentives (I live in San Antonio, Texas) I took 3 years of spanish in high school, and now I'm being required to take another year of foreign language. I believe if I wanted or NEEDED to know a foreign language I'd live somewhere that didn't speak english. I have no intentions on going anywhere that doesnt' speak english, so why do I have to be forced to learn some other country's language..they obviously don't care enough to learn OURS when they come HERE, but rather expect to have their culture catered to.

You should just tell her the answer not treat her like she is stupid. I don't think it is a stupid question.
