He'd have to quit. Simple as that. It's a gross habit. Smelly breath, smelly clothes, dirty teeth. I have a sister who smokes. She's intelligent, pretty and thin, but she's not as pretty as she could be and she knows it. Best of luck.

It would take quite a bit. I'm an ex smoker, and I don't want to be tempted by being around a smoker.

The only thing that might make me date a smoker would be how much money his worth, but it may not be enough when it comes to the risk of second hand smoke.

I've dated a lot of smokers, it's all in what you have in common for me....but if you really have a problem with smokers then stick to non-smokers.

Everything else has to be nearly perfect, and he has to be committed to quitting smoking. I did have a boyfriend who smoked and was also an alcoholic. I had the worst sinus headaches and infections from his second - hand smoke. I would say, "Honey, your smoke is hurting my head, and he'd put out the cigarette," but he'd have another one 5 minutes later. He said he wanted to quit but wouldn't try any of the herbal remedies I bought for him and wouldn't try the nicotine patch since it didn't work for his boss; he did not try to quit at all! I left him because I knew his addictions would ruin his health and I would resent having to take care of him since he did it to himself. A few months ago, I attended his funeral. He was only my age. Very few of his friends were there because they were also addicts and were either ill or gone.
I vowed never to date another smoker but then I met someone that was great in every other way. He smoked the same brand of cigarettes as the other guy so I was used that odor and it didn't bother me too much. He also said that he wanted to quit for his health, but that he enjoyed smoking so much. Then he would talk about how healthy he thinks he is and how he was probably beating the odds; that the smoking wasn't hurting me. However, he snored terribly at night and appeared to stop breathing at night. I told him that I think he has sleep apnea but I don't think he got it checked out. Whenever we went out to eat, he had to go outside to smoke so I was left sitting alone in the restruant.
No more smokers for me! I am with another runner who is very healthy. His ex-wife is a smoker and always said she would quit but didn't so now she has COPD.

In order for me to date a smoker, they'd have to become a non-smoker...so wait - that actually cancels out the smoking part right????

Smoker, non smoker - what does it matter as long as you are interested enough in the person to want to go out with them.

Wow, a lot of these answers make me think much less of the world. I'm a smoker and if I met someone that loved me and that I loved but he told me I'd have to quite before he'd be with me, I'd cut off his dick. Love conqures all, including a little bit of smoke. Grow some balls and live with it if you really love them.
