For the wine I would go with something French 2003, the Merlots are slightly sweeter than others so they are nice and mellow, the Cabernet's are usually pretty smooth too but with few sweet notes. Yes you can pick up a bottle at your local grocery for less than $15! I get them in Toledo OH at Krogers for $7-$8 a bottle. Robert Mondavi wines are excellent too.

For dessert I love tiramisu and cheesecake but that might be too heavy a dessert after such a lovely heavy meal. My husband would be groaning if I fed him either after lasagna! (He's a fit kind of guy!) So Tiramisu if he's a big eater and something lighter like an Italian Ice, strawberries dipped in chocolate, or maybe poached pears if you've ever seen him leave food on his plate. You might want to pick up some lovely cookies such as Pepperidge Farms Pirouettes or Milanos as an accompaniment to a fruit dessert. Strawberries and cookies are lovely to look at and sexy to feed to each other! Don't forget some lovely coffee with the dessert.

A good merlot is always perfect with lasagna.
Since you said this was a romantic dinner, dip some big sweet strawberries in dark chocolate and feed them to each other. If you don't like dark chocolate you can use white chocolate or whipped cream. Be sure to leave the stems and leaves on them so it will be easier to feed them to your partner. They look prettier that way too.

hi....I wish I was coming to your dinner. I am from an Italian family and I cook stuff like this all the time. I suggest serving a spumoni ice cream with a mini biscotti or some type of simple Italian cookie that you can purchase. After all the work you have done take it easy on dessert. And something light like that is also very refreshing to end on.

The most classic and delicious italian dessert to end a nice lasagna meal is Tiramisu! Soft lady fingers, creamy fillings, chocolate, coffee and rum, best served to eachother with a nice wine in front of the fireplace! Enjoy! :-)

Ohhh My absolute favorite meal!!!!

But, it is a 'heavy' meal especially in the summer. I would go with a light dessert. Maybe strawberries and cream. Or a nice fruit bowl. He's going to be stuffed after eating that delicious meal.

Good Luck with it...It sounds romantic...enjoy!
Don't forget the candles!

Cannoli dip...it even sounds great:

8 oz. cream cheese, softened
1 stick margarine, softened
1/2 cup sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1/4 bag mini semi sweet morsels

Beat the first 4 ingredients, then add morsels and mix by hand.
Eat by dipping animal crackers of graham cracker sticks
Voila, super easy! Enjoy!

A classic Italian dessert would be a canoli.
As for the wine, just to to a local wine merchant and tell them you want a bottle of Dago Red.
