I have never heard of such a program. The only program that I know of that you might be referring to is called "Sar-El" (see sources section below). With Sar-El, you volunteer to work on an Israeli army base for at least 2 weeks. You work full weeks with weekends off, plus at least 1 tour is usually included (depending on the length of your volunteer work). I don't know more details than this; you can read more about it on the Web page I have listed if you are interested.

And...in response to some of the really *stupid* comments above... Israel is *not* "willing to go to war over a couple of soldiers". The country is fighting back after 5 *years* of repeated bombings of its civilians *and* military and in order to save the lives of 2 human beings. What would *your* country do if 20% of its citizens were forced to live in bomb shelters for days or weeks at a time--several families in a single unfurnished 8'x10' room? And travel to Israel is *not* free for any Jew going for the first time. There are *some* free programs. Anyone accepted to a free program travels to Israel for free. Pretty simple, actually!!

you can vacation in Israel anytime. Now might be a bit dangerous, but..as for the military, everyone in Israel has to do 2 years of active military. That is one reason Israel is willing to go to war over a couple of soldiers.

No its not true unless your an Israeli citizen already. travel to Israel is free if you are a Jew going for the first time. It is their way of helping Jews move to their homeland.
