to call people who are overweight "fat" if they are that way because they are simply lazy and have poor eating habits? I'm sick of people being defensive about it and defending fat people with the "it's the genes" or "it's a medical problem" crap. Their genes don't make them go to McDonalds and get the supersize meal everyday.

I agree with you, genetics doesn't make one stuff themselves with McDonalds.

It all depends on who you'd be saying that to. If you walk over to just some random fatty at a table eating.. then yes. That can be kinda mean..

A good friend? Well.. say it in a way that's not "EWWW FATTY!!!!"..but yes, they should be told it.

But no, overall I don't think "Fat" should be offensive at all. I agree, I am tired of people getting defensive about it. The best way to defend yourself from being called fat.. is to lose the weight? Yeah that sounds about right.

Another thing is.. Smoking has become "nasty" apparently in the media or whatever. I know some states have banned smoking in places (bars & resturaunts)..and everyone is very much aware that smoking can cause all sorts of disease..and it's OK to go "Eww a smoker!!" OR even better: Choose NOT to date someone because they are a smoker and you find that disgusting.
Yet, being overweight causes ALOT of health problems as well as disease..and yet, if you choose NOT to date someone because you say "Your fat".. that makes you look like a horrible person.

Hopefully things can change.

Not everyone who is fat is fat because of lack of will power or being lazy. And yes, I think many thin people look down on those who are overweight and think it's ok to make fun of them or discriminate against them.

I am overweight, and yes, I don't always make the best food choices. However, I put on several pounds within the time span of a year or so due to being diagnosed with a medical condition and the medications I was prescribed to deal with the condition. Several of the medications added pounds to me and have made it very difficult for me to lose the weight. Sometimes I feel like all I have to do is look at food and my pants get tighter. I eat now less than I did 10 years ago, however, I'm much heaver now.

Many people who are overweight are so due to health issues, whether physical or mental. Food can become an addiction, effecting the brain the same way drugs and alcohol can. For these people, losing weight and eating better can be as difficult as kicking a cocaine or meth habit. Many people without weight issues don't realize this.

Please don't judge people with weight issues. Unless you live with them everyday and see their struggles and issues you have no idea what they go through.

I agree. There's about 3% of people who actually do have a medical excuse, and then I can understand. But the other 97% of the people sit around and watch TV. My cousin was overweight by about 110 pounds. Reason? She ate McDonalds and Burger King every other day (literally) and then would go home and watch TV for four hours while eating a whole bag of potato chips and cookies and popcorn.
They should not get so defensive about it, because it is their own fault. If you eat right, and execise, it's easy to stay at a regular weight. And by "right" I don't mean cutting out all carbs or a riddiculous diet. Just cut out some of that fast food, and exercise.

I hate fat people, they're disgusting and have horrible attitudes. If a fat person is at McDonalds ordering a supersize meal with an extra burger on the side, it's not genetics...it's because they are a fat, lazy pig. Period.

Why does it matter so much to you to prove you are
better than them? Besides you are misinformed.
Metabolism is a real thing. Many fat people lack willpower
but people with the same willpower who eat and exercise
the same will have a range of weights. It is not true that all
calories that go into you are processed. So You might eat
a 300 meal and process 100 calories worth and someone
with a slower metabolism might get 250 from it.

Genes, metabolism, willpower all are factors. Don't be so
ready to hate people and to make the lives of people worse
just because you think they are lesser people than you.

Some people are fat because they are lazy, eat too much, etc. But some people DO have a genetic predisposition to being overweight. Somehow I doubt you are in a position to make the call and go around insulting people. But youre going to anyway.

If they actually have a physical problem-no.
Like you said...if they are lazy and watch TV while eating french fries than YES! Also, I do not like all of the problems with MCDonalds getting sued for not being healthy. They did not come kidnap me from my house and force open my mouth. Next people will be complaining that Snickers makes them fat. i would be fat too if I bought 100 of them every trip at the grocery store.

Know what I'm sick and tired of? Other fat people (other than me) bitching and moaning and refusing to accept their own responsibility for their condition. Instead they blame everyone else. And what does everyone else do? They punish ME. Thanks a LOT fat people who can't take responsability! Now they're phasing out my supersized meals. Yes they make me fat! Yes it's my own fault! I like greasy fast food better than I like being thin and you're all ruining it for me! Grow up and take responsibility for the fact that you can't stop feeding your face so that I don't have to be limited by YOUR stupidity!

Calling people names is wrong. "Fat" is not a very kind word. However, they are overweight or obese.

You're right though. It is because they fail to make good choices. They need to hold themselves accountable for the choices they make.

(BTW, I and 5'9" and weigh 240. So, I know what I am saying. It's my fault.)

I think it is rude and unfeeling to do it to their face. True many of the excuses are not valid, but other obese people have psychological problems as real as the other explanations and are ill. Most would prefer not to be fat.
