General Medical Questions
Q: Is weight gain one of the side effects after gallbladder surgery?
A:
Weight gain does not normally occur after gallbladder surgery, although several possibilities arise as to why this might occur in individual instances. The most plausible one would be the renewed ability to indulge in foods that were avoided because they produced pain from gallstones. Typically, foods that bring on gallbladder pain are the rich, fatty ones, precisely those that are rich in calories. Other conceivable but very remote possibilities include falling out of an exercise routine following surgery, or remaining off of cigarettes that were cut out in anticipation of surgery.

Did your doctor put you on a low-fat diet? My doctor did after I had my surgery, and I blew up like a balloon before I realized that it was all the sugar and white flour in the things I was eating supposedly "lowfat" "Low fat" usually means high sugar, and it will cause you to crave more things that are high sugar, and you will gain weight.
Did you have stomach upset after surgery? I did and still do whenever I eat something with a lot of fat. It feels like food poisoning.

Well, in my anatomy class we learned that your gallbladder produces bile to break down fat. Could be your body can't break down fat properly.
