How can I find info about acting in plays and drama?

I want to start acting but don't want to go to Hollywood, just something at a local level

Going to a local college that offers drama classes and acting in the school plays is a good way to start I think.

You don't say your age, but you could always check out the drama department at a local high school as well. Or just go to a play in your area, stay after the performance is over and start talking to the actors or other people there.

Look in your local newspaper. There will listings at the local community playhouses for auditions and such.
