I mean, if the truth is dependant on one's own interpretation of the Bible, why all the quarelling over little things like baptism, and whether gays should be let in the church, and whether the Bible supports conservative or liberal interpretation, or 7 day creationism or theistic evolution, and so on . . .

I mean, if no person really has the authority to determine the truth of the bible?

Ok, this is really for Protestants only. Thanks to mother_to_seven for the distinction :) I explored the Catholic church for a while for this very reason.

That should say:
I mean, if no person really has the authority to determine the true interpretation of the bible?

These answers mostly confirm what I thought. Read for the Bible and think for yourself to determine what is the truth. But if you diagree with me, your WRONG! Or worse, going to hell.

*sigh*
No wonder I left.

Truth does NOT depend on ones own interpretation of the Word. Who told you this?
Little things like baptism? little thing? this little baptism thing will get you in heaven or not get you in heaven. Now, how little is it?

Any gay person has the right to be in any church ( not a member) according to God Himself.
The Bible only supports 7 day creation. Period. NO person has the authority to declare anything about The Bible, other than It is The Word of God.

Scripture interprets Scripture. That is, you use other passages to interpret what is being read. There are no contradictions concerning doctrines or precepts, therefore, you use the Bible to interpret itself. In fact, most of Scripture is pretty straight forward. It tells you what to do, you do it, tells you not to do something, don't do it. The Bible contains history, doctrine, precepts, poems, simile and metaphors. The key is knowing which is which, that is where your common sense comes into play. Genesis was history and written as such. Psalms are poetry, Proverbs are precepts. Ultimately, it is the Holy Spirit who guides the believer as he studies the Scriptures, revealing truth and how to apply it to our lives.

The biblical writings were in Sanskrit, then Greek, and finally English. Each translator had his shot at the interpretation of the writing. Then, King James men put together what they liked of the writings and left out anything derogatory such as Jesus being married with several children and killing his tutor who denied his divinity.

It is The Good News of Salvation That is what it is all about...

There are indeed debateable points within "the bible". As long as it dose not mess with the Salvation message. or, deny the Diety of Jesus The Christ... Debate is allowed between those of The Christian Faith..

On the Salvation Message alone the RC cult is disqualified to claim They are of The Christian Faith

Here is the direct link to the Bible page of my website if you care to read. from there you may read my pov of the RCs by going to the index and clicking on the Catholic page

By allowing all and any interpretation you lose the Word all together. The Word of God speaks with the authority of God Himself and we are to submit to Him and His Word and to "contend earnestly for the faith". If you allow the sinfulness you refer to in the church you go against Christ Himself. See Rev 2:18-29 about His warning to those who tolerate sin, it is a very sobering warning. Also we are warned over and over against false prophets and false teachers. Paul warned the Ephesians with tears about them, Peter calls them "brute beasts made to be caught and destroyed" yet you want to leave them alone. One thing is sure. If they teach contrary to scripture it is heresy. Many don't realize why creation is so under attack. It is the foundation of Christianity. If you lose it you lose Gods Might and ownership as creator, you lose credibility of anything in the Word, you lose original sin and the headship of the first Adam and so also the Last Adam. This idea of so called tolerance is not of God who calls us to be "soldiers of the cross" not compromiseres.

First of all, most Christians are passionate about what they believe. What is there worth being passionate about that is more worthy than your love for the church?

Combine with that a call for Christians to evangelize. We are taught that we should share the good news with others.

Those two things make for an explosive combination when you encounter two people who don't agree.

Don't lump all of us together. The Apostle says in the New Testament that there will be disagreement among the brethren, but if it is over minor matters, we should let it go and get along.
