I tell them I can't talk right now, I'm busy sacrificing a goat to Satan, but if they want to come in and wait, we can talk when I'm done.... they usually don't stay.

This works regardless of the denomination or religion. Listen and talk to them. If you truly have a belief system and have endeavoured to learn and understand it, it is not a bad experience. I find people never make more than two trips to my home. We always end on an amicable note. I've had Jehovah's Witnesses and Momorns stop by in every city in which I've lived (ther have been 5). I've had them come back with a more knowledgeable person, but after that, they usually leave me alone. It has worked various Christian denominations as well.
I cannot vouch for the effectiveness against those who do not evangelize. I've never had a Taoist at my door.

1) They believe strongly that they have the right answers and want to save you from your 'mistakes'.
2) They are insecure in their beliefs and want to convert you to help them keep their 'faith'.
3) People like it when others agree with them.

I have tried to learn about as many religions as I can. If it's appropriate, I challenge them on some contradictions in their religion (they all have contradictions). Otherwise, I just politely tell them to go away.

It totally depends on them. If they are polite about it, I will be polite. If they try the damnation route, I dish it right back at them (usually using their own book).
That is one thing in the bible that I definitely agree with... even though it was said by several other philosophers long before Jesus... Treat others as you want to be treated. So if you treat me like crap, I assume that's how you want to be treated in return. ^_^

I don't know about conversions. We approach people to teach them about things others don't, in their own bibles. Some realize the truth and get baptized and join us. Others just happily go their own way.
Don't think when we come to your door we want everyone to join us. There is a test and you must pass it to get baptized. Jesus told us to feed his sheep, but he also told us how to handle the goats.

nicely tell them that you believe what you believe and your happy with that so god (or whoever they pray to) should be happy, and if he isnt he is a hypocrite
meanly, tell them you worship the devil and you have been working on a spell to make them all into goats for a sacrificial ritual, and they are just the right amount of sheep that you need.

I listen politely and then tell them I'm not interested, that I have my own beliefs and they work quite well for me. If they persist, I tell them that I was nice to them, they should return the favor and be nice back.

weeell if u dont like that then ask them politely not to do it
but remember one thing, dont attack their religion first and then tell them they're being annoying talking about it. so i suggest u sta safe of talking about religions u dont know about or just dont be offensive when talking about someone's religion while he's around
