My toddler daughter had a birthday recently and got lots of gifts from various relatives. Some people sent more than one gift. I had to postpone writing the notes because I was busy with other stuff I needed to do. I'm ready to write them now, but I can't recall exactly who sent what, but I still need to write the notes. How can I do this without letting them know I forgot?

Especially with little kids, I think its perfectly fine to write, "thank you for your gift and for attending my party, it wouldn't have been the same without you."

I had the same problem with arrival gifts for my daughter, I now keep her gifts and cards together and snap a digital photo of the gift with the card, so I can see the name. That way, when I write her thank yous, I can just look up the photo and remember that way.

Dear April:

Thanks so much for your hospitality and generosity. You really showed the spirit of partying and I so enjoyed your company. And you looked wonderful in that new suit of yours. That lavender colour really showed off your tan. Good luck with your new job and great you just finished that photography course.

I look forward to seeing you at the farewell party before your grandfather's cruise. His gift was great as well, very considerate of you to find something so suitable. Well, best of luck and I will be seeing you.

Thanks so much,

Your friend Betty

just tell them thank you for the wonderful gift and let them know that their love and generosity is deeply appreciated. what the item was is not as important as the caring behind the giving. that is what should be focused on. if it really bothers you, tell them the truth and they will probably understand. especially if they have children of their own. next time, appoint someone in the group to write down the name and gift given.

I just got married and I had the same kind of thing. Also, I did not want to just say "Thanks for the money" and that be all so I wouldn't look greedy. Maybe try Thank you for attending ***birthday party. We really appreciate taking your time to celebrate her special day and for bringing a lovely gift.

Send a thank you card that reads Thank you for the wonderful gift.

ie: Dear___ I would like to thank you for your wonderful gift(s). Jill is enjoying them very much.

There is really no need to say the name of the gift in the note itself. Just say Gift!

Make general notes for everyone, stating something among the comments such as "Thank you for the wonderful gift. My toddler loves it very much! It was very generous of you to give it. Thanks again" or something among those lines.

Do something cute, like a poem or saying that you can put on every one. For my daughters bday that happened to me. I just put:

Thank you for your presence and the presents. They were both greatly enjoyed.
