Dont make this rocket science.
You can reformat it from the command prompt,
(start/ Run ......... then type "cmd" and hit enter)
Then type "Format c: (or whatever drive letter) ".
Keep in mind you are going to
TOTALLY WIPE OUT ALL DATA ON THE DRIVE SELECTED..
it will warn you.
Then use your XP disk to re-install / install your new software.
P.S. NICE earring.

You need to locate your XP Pro Installation disk. As an IT manager, I'd recommend that you do NOT move from Pro down to Home Edition of XP. Xp Home and Pro are exactly the same, with the exception that the Home version has MANY of the Integrated features disabled or simply missing. Inventory all the hardware in your PC and download the appropriate drivers from the manufacturer's websites; then save them on a CD or some other removable storage media. Set your BIOS to boot from the CDROM first. Put your XP installation CD in the drive and reboot your PC. Follow the instructions given in the DOS mode portion of the setup program. At one point, EARLY in the installation, the setup program will give you the opportunity to partition and format your hard drives. Once XP is installed, install your hardware drivers; followed by your other software...

Download Linux, and use the hard drive formatting tool found there. Don't install it, unless you want Linux on your computer. Just format everything and back out of the installation process. Then insert your WinXP disk and start the machine, it will auto-install. It's a sure-fire way to wipe out an old hard drive and everything on it. ;-)
