Pray, exercise, go to the garden, meet with friends, see a counsellor or psychologist, write, web blog, learn a music instrument, get out of the house and maybe go to the mall.
I sympathise with you as I also have been a bit blue lately.
It is best not to brood at home but to keep yourself occupied so that your mind does not stray.
Cheers and have a nice day.

Get out of the house, Friend. As long as you hole up there, the depression is the only voice you hear.
What do you have a talent for? Gardenning is usually good. And my sister has discoverred she loves building little doll houses and bird houses. The neighbor down the street does gardenning, painting, and woodworking.
You could try reading, writing, baking, knitting or sewing. Or try hiking: The exercise will be good for you both physically and mentally.
Meanwhile, does your doctor know the depression is not lifting? He may want to try something else.

If you have been treated for 5 years for depression and you are still thinking about death, then the meds are not working. Call your Dr and have them change the dose or medication.
