I have a 6 year old autistic son that is hyperlexic. He loves all the leapfrog products. How about puzzles? Get the good ones that have the interlocking pieces by Melissa and Doug. A crawl through tunnel maybe. Does she like to draw or write letters? Maybe an easel with a chalkboard or mount a big dry erase board in her room? I understand about running out of ideas lol He has every toy that makes a noise and lights up..lol Gl!

I can only make a suggestion, I worked with autistic children for only two yrs so I am no expert at that or being a mom since I have a 1yr old boy and boy #2 will be here in less then 3 months. However, from my experience I have found that if you stick with items they are interested in it makes no difference what they are happy. for example one little boy loved dinosaurs so anything to do with them he was happy, toys, puzzles, movies, documentaries. so I say if she likes music and lights then find her a toy that does both. Does she have a water table? if not then maybe that would be a good gift. good luck.

Hi, I too have an autistic daughter who is 11 now. All her young life she LOVED software that taught her just about anything. She sits at the computer for hours and does math, plays games, reads stories, and just about anything you can think of. THe games are usually really cheap and if she doesn't like them hit the delete key! Good Luck, Stew

Only you know your child!

Most autistic children are incredibly gifted in one direction or another. the secret is to find that particular interest and feed it. Don;t try to buy the most expensive things because it is often the very simple things that give the most pleasure

Suggestions;- Art materials, jigsaws. sticking and pasting books, nature. projects. colecting shells from the seashore

The most valuable thing you can ive to an autistic child and often the most difficult is your time.

What about one of those children's computer units such as V-Tech? You can check out a store like Toys R U to find a console that has different games that incorporate music, stories and art.

Even though she's a girl, you might want to consider getting her Legos/Duplo blocks to build with. My oldest son is high functioning autistic and at 11 is still completely obsessed with them. You may find that, like many autistic children, she is advanced in visual/spatial skills.

Wind chimes...anything she can build with would be good...have you heard of Magnetix? wonderful magnetic structure building stuff... Art things...puzzles are also another activity enjoyed by autistic individuals, as are anything musical as has already been suggested. Electric train sets often fascinate, though they are not girly. I am sure whatever she gets will be enjoyed.

I did some work experience with an autistic group for a while using dance, movement therapy. Most of the group really enjoyed playing with parachute material. We used to put coloured balls into them and toss the balls into the air etc. They also liked dancing with brightly coloured pom poms. i hope this helps and she has a lovely day.
