Catholics believe suicide when committed in full knowledge and deliberate consent is a complete turning away from God (a mortal sin) and will send a person to hell.

There are 3 conditions of a mortal sin: grave matter, full knowledge, and deliberate consent.

While suicide (or any kind of murder) is always a grave matter, people who commit suicide may not always have full knowledge of what they're doing. Drugs can definitely impair one's thinking, as can other things, such as diseases, intense pain, or anguish.

Therefore, suicide is not automatically treated as a mortal sin.

We are commanded by Christ not to judge others so we leave final judgment to God who alone knows each person's heart.

With love in Christ.

In most christianity you go to meet your Maker. Judaism has pretty much the same view. Catholics though believe it is the unpardonable sin because you cant repent of it. And you go to hell or purgetory. (Its not the unpardonable sin though blaspheming the Holy Spirit is)

Muslims believe if you do it fighting the muslim fight you will be rewarded with a number of virgins and be in paradise (what happens if a woman does this I don't know)

Hindus believe that you get bad karma for doing this and will come back as a lesser creature.

Buddism must not look down on it since some monks have killed themselve to bring attention to a cause or event. And Samurai could actually atone for their misdeeds by killing themselves.

im christian and thats a hard one it says that the penalty of sin is death when i talks about death i means ur not going to heaven. suicide is a sin and since u commited it then died i guess you would be sinning before u could repent and thus u would probly be thown into h e double hocky sticks anyway suicied can only be forgiven by repenting to christ so i dont know my church bystandards say that u have to repent for every sin u commit but i know other christian churches have once saved always saved. i guess if u were catholic and u were already whatever they call it then ud probly spend some time in purgatory. if u were muslim ha depending on the surcumstances i guess with them if u did it for ur beleifs u know like a human bomb then ud probly go to heaven and if u just did it to do it then i have no freakin idea. budist or hindu then ud probly recarnated

As one of Jehovahs Witnesses we take the bibles view.
Love strengthens our recognition that suicide—though evading one’s own burdens—only heaps more problems on loved ones left behind. As far as the one who rashly took his own life is concerned, we humans cannot judge as to whether he will get a resurrection or not. How reprehensible was he? God alone searches ‘all hearts and every inclination of the thoughts.’ (1 Chronicles 28:9) But we may be confident that ‘the Judge of all the earth is going to do what is loving, just, and right!’—Genesis 18:25.

As a Christian, and a bible student, I believe, "the dead are conscious of nothing at all" ecclesiastes 9:5. (so this is about ALL dead mankind, not just suicides)
they have paid for their sins by death, and now await the possibility of a resurrection on the earth, under the rule of the kingdom we pray for in the lords prayer, "thy will be done, as in heaven also upon earth", a REAL kingdom that will destroy all other kingdoms(daniel 2:44)... hence all the prophecies in the bible regarding the earth, (meek inheriting etc) god didn't intend us to live here for seventy trouble-filled years then pop off to float on a cloud with a harp, he created the earth to be INHABITED, by PERFECT people, (isaiah 45:18) and his purpose DOES NOT CHANGE. we have a hope of seeing ALL our dead loved ones here on the earth again....

God, as the source of life, describes human life as precious, sacred. (Gen. 9:5; Ps. 36:9) Suicide, the taking of one’s own life, or killing oneself, is condemned by the Bible. This intentional act is self-murder. (Ex. 20:13; 1 John 3:15) Life is a gift from God, not something to be abused or to end at one’s own hand. (James 1:17) The Scriptures encourage us to see ourselves, not as immortal souls, but as valuable creations of the God who loves us, who treasures our being alive, and who looks forward with joy to the time of the resurrection.—Job 14:14, 15.

There are many reasons for suicide, sometimes mental illness. We as humans can not judge those who commit suicide. It is only up to God to do the judging. He knows all of the circumstances.

Catholics believe that people who commit suicide are not thinking straight....and the proof is that they commit suicide. Our natural tendency is to preserve our own lives, not take them.

We believe our God is a God of infinite mercy, and will not condemn someone who is not able to think properly and chooses to end their own life.

We leave their fate to His boundless mercy.

I use to be Catholic, and I know that Catholics believe that the soul goes to purgatory (like the middle of Heaven and Hell, where you go to await judgement)... I'm sure this is what other religions believe, too. However, I do not believe this!

I'd like to know this also but so many answers are different.I believe our body dies and our soul or spirit which ever you choose to call it remains living.I consider myself more spiritual than religious.I was brought up in a Baptist Church as a child but I prefer non denominational for now.
