I believe so yes. Most cases they are trying to find what is missing in them through another person which over time will only lead to them thinking the wrong things.
On the converse, sometimes it just takes that person who loves them to help them through it, but mostly I think that the above is true.

No, not true. Sometimes the person who loves you can be just the pillar that you need to lean on while you sort out your issues. It would be best to enter a relationship whole, but nothing is ideal. At least you recognize there is an issue. Work on it and feel happy to have someone who adores you. Hold on to that one.

a person has to have themselves together - if they don't it won't work ... Michael Jackson is a fine example of someone needing to get himself together
