Ok for the record WE the Police are not trained to, nor is it advocated or allowed by rule or law to shoot someone simply for running from us. You will however be caught and hancuffed laying proned out if you choose to run from us, because well your not supossed to do that and you should know better. Cops has been on the air long enough have any of you actually seen them shoot someone just for running away. No, they chase them take them to the ground and handcuff them.

Is this hypothetical? What's the distance between the subjects in question? How fast can you run? If you didn't do anything why run? If you did do something, depends on what it was. If you shot a cop or two you may as well run as your life is over anyway. If it was a DUI, you may be too sloshed to think, but go ahead and run, they usually don't shoot people for that. Need more examples?

It really all depends on what you did (allegedly) if you killed somebody or threatened to kill somebody I would stay put by all means. If you are a simple street hustler or crook make sure you turn your back to them, they will be very hesitant to pull the trigger on a shoplifter that is RUNNING AWAY and poses no threat.

I would however recommend that you follow directions and do as they say. This is the safest way not to get shot. When in cuffs smiply invoke your right to remain silent and request your attorney at once and say nothing else about the matter.

You should however consult your attorney as I am not one.

Depends! If have done nothing wrong why should you run away?

Depends on the country you live in. Some police are so corrupt you will have to make a instant decision to accept them as the authority or risk the consequences if you flee and are caught.

Stand still and assume the police are for your protection and are your friends. That's your BEST chance. If they've been shot at recently or brutalized themselves by the bad guys, however, they may be in a bad mood. I'm just telling you the survival manual.

That probably depends on what country I am in, whether police are corrupt or bigoted in that country, my own ethnicity, and whether or not I was actually doing anything illegal.

In general, in the USA, its wiser to stand still, and be as polite and non-threatening as possible--that's least likely to get you hurt, and your lawyer will appreciate not having to defend you from an extra charge.

Run is the last thing to do. They LOVE to catch you and give some "stick time" for your trouble.

I'd be cautious around anyone toting a gun. They do make mistakes. Your family will avenge you in court, but where does that leave you? Still dead.

So play dead if confronted. Speak softly.
